Do NOT take Zofran if you are on Geodon:

http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-1693...G&pagenumber=9

I was sick with a stomach bug so I decided to take Zofran, unaware that you aren't supposed to take it if you're on Geodon. I ended up with heart palpitations, chest pains, muscle weakness and nausea that landed me in the ER last night. The dr. and medical resident told me you should never mix those two because they can cause a reaction that can lead to heart damage or even a heart attack. I think the medical resident was pretty mortified that somebody with a background in medical librarianship wouldn't look a drug up to see what interacts with it. I admitted that I totally dropped the ball as a patient and librarian and sat there wishing the floor would swallow me up.

Anyway---just wanted to pass that on. I was advised to stick with something like Dramamine or ask the NP I see Monday at the outpatient center what to take. Phenergen is apparantly an option but it makes me vomit. Next time I'll just stick with being miserable for a day or two!

I did not realize that there are medications for a stomach virus. I thought that you just live through it trying to keep down an electrolyte solution. I am sorry it happened to you and thanks for letting us know! If stomach viruses happen to you periodically, I would recommend buying a can of Vitalyte Cool Citrus at your local REI. It works better than water (far better) and has a very pleasant flavor. And won't interact with Geodon!

It's for nausea. I took because with three kids I have to be able to function. Staying in the bathroom most of the day isn't an option for me. When the kids have a bug I don't give them anything like that. It's shorter lived if you just let it run its course. Next time I'll ask my husband to stay home. Throwing my guts up for 24 hours would have been easier.
