Is it possible to have in addition to bipolar other mood disorders?

I have bipolar-2, borderline personality and PMDD. Does that mean I have 3 mood disorders?

Sorry I am confused by all this and newly dx'ed bipolar.

BPD is not at all a mood disorder. BPD is a personality disorder. It is what is called an Axis II diagnosis while Bipolar and all other mood disorders are an Axis I diagnosis.

I know BPD is axis 2 - it also says marked mood disturbances. Pmdd also has marked mood problems. How can they say bipolar when there are other disorder causing mood problems I don't get it? Can it be mistaken for each other the BPD& BP and mix in the pmdd? I saw 3 different doctors and got 3 different dx's.

Doc 1) said Mood NOS. Doc 2) said it was PMDD related. Doc 3) says Bipolar. I don't have much faith in what these doctors are telling me.

Read through the criteria more closely to see the distinctions.

It's possible to have more than 1 dx, each of your dx are mood disorders. If your symptoms are still present while on birth control it's most-likely not pmdd. My rule of thumb is go with the pdoc you trust most or the most severe dx. This may help you with the difference between BP2 & BPD.

The 2nd P-doc said I didn't meet criteria for BP being that the time my mood fluctuates is right before my cycle after I start I level out. I can't take birth control pills because I smoke. I take all sorts of vitamin supplements to help with the pmdd with no luck. Reason 3rd p-doc is going with bipolar is because the SSRI's AD I been given makes me really manic and he said people with bipolar respond negatively to AD's. Thanks for that link, I will read through it. I really really think this is more hormonal and linked to my cycle causing the mood disturbances.

Saw the Doc today and I guess he doesnt have me dx'ed BP-2 he has me down as Mood NOS as it's very hard for him to assess between the pmdd/borderline and the similarities of bipolar.

he said none the less I need meds to help with the moods. He is keeping me on the lamictal and once I hit 100mg (3wk from now) he is going to add a very low dose of abilify 2mg into the mix and see how things go. If that doesnt work he mentioned a med called Latuda??
