I wanted to know what everyone's experience with this medication has been in terms of weight gain.
Are there any weight neutral meds in this class of medications? Doc wants me start this and I am apprehensive on weight gain, high blood pressure and diabetes. I am currently on Lamictal only for BP-2. |

This is a good article about antipsychotics and weight gain/diabetes. Abilify has the lowest weight gain and is considered weight neutral. |

Geodon is a good med in this class, too. I am not at my perfect weight right now, but it is not because of Geodon. On Geodon, I was at some point size 6 which is the perfect size for me.

I was only on for a short time and a low dose of Abilify but was assured it was a weight neutral med. I had no weight gain. In this class of drug from my limited experience I would say Abilify is one of the best to take if you have concerns about side affects.

I almost started on Abilify but ended up staying on Geodon. I was naturally concerned with weight. P-doc said that the weight warning is placed on Abilify simply because it belongs to the class of atypical AP's that cause weight gain, but Abilify in and of itself is safe.

I took abilify and it causes your blood sugar to rise so to counter act that my doc gave me meteformin which I lost 60 lbs on it. But I did weigh 240
