I was wondering if anyone else experiences hearing music? I've been diagnosed with bipolar 2 disorder, which manifests as depression and on the opposite end, anxiety. I don't know if others bipolar manifests this way (in that it's not true hypomania) or have this experience.

I don't hear music but sometimes voices. A long time ago I used to hear a phone ringing. That was the worst. Happened many times. I'm BP NOS (never finished getting diagnosed.)

In one poll 67% of the people polled heard their phone ringing when it wasn't.. it's received the label of ringxiety. I used to get phantom texts.. and when I would go to read them they would disappear. Not sure what that was, but no one was harmed.. and it will stay unsolved. The brain is weird.. very weird indeed.

What always seems so weird to me, with hallucinations.. it's coming from your own mind. If you really think about it, it is weird. Some of my hallucinations have been pretty bad, scary, or extremely strange.. do I want to know what else is going on in there.. judging by my dreams.. probably not. How did it get so weird in there?

They say 50% of voice hearers are not mentally ill. even my pdoc told me that and handed me a book. So that said... the brain is a little strange.. and I am guessing people experience this more than we know, but we don't want to talk about it maybe. Cause then you would be "crazy". Maybe this stuff isn't crazy.. maybe it's more normal than we were told?

Funny thing is if you say you saw a ghost.. somehow that is less crazy than saying you heard voices..

Ah no, this was long before the cell phones (or before I ever had one at least,) it was the landline at my house. I would be in my room, the phone would start ringing, I'd run to get it (it was across the house, would ring the whole time,) as soon as I would step into the room, it would stop. Pick up the phone, no one there. Hang up, go back to my room, phone would start ringing.... And it would go on for 3+ hours at a time. Talk about feeling like you're going insane... it was quite terrifying actually.

Now my reality test on this is that it would happen even when my dad was home, and he wouldn't hear the phone ringing. Only me. So, it wasn't prank calls or anything. Once I even woke him in the middle of the night, sobbing, to ask him if the phone had been ringing. He also had a phone right next to his bed. Nope, just me.

I get that "did I just get a text?" phantom vibration thing. It's totally different.

Not saying that is your case DH, just that it happens a lot with phones. I kinda think that happened with phones before cells, in my case anyways. But it wouldn't be what like you described.

When I started getting psychosis at about 11 years old, I honestly thought that everyone must get this kind of stuff and they didn't talk about it.. like taboo. Eventually I realized that was not true, not everyone did. But then you do come across so many who do too.. so to me I wonder if it is mentally illness.. or something else.. maybe not that abnormal.

Like people always talk about seeing ghosts and stuff, and that's pretty acceptable, depending yes but more acceptable. Thing is I don't believe in ghosts even tho I think I saw some. I wonder if they are kind of the same thing sometimes.

When I got phantom texts, it didn't just vibrate. The screen showed the text popup preview thing with words in it. I caught what it said once.. I posted here it wasn't cool. But when I would pick up the phone to read it it would disappear, that's happened many times over the last two years. So that's not the same as the phantom text thing either really, but I dunno, is that really too weird to be normal..... haha ok I "know" how that sounds... cray-cray

I hear music all the time but i tend to listen to music all the time too. Im not a big fan of watching tv so music is my thing. But when i think i hear it i cant make out a song or what kind of music it is im hearing because its so low. Also i think i hear my phone ringing and even sometimes think i feel it vibrating while its in my pocket. Especially while im driving or vaccume cleaning. Its definitly annoying at timesbut i try my best to ignore it. Im bipolar 1 along with many other diagnoses and only am taking neurontin for symptoms but have tried many other meds with no relief so ive had to learn in ignoring alot. Sorry if i didnt help any but i am new to this. Ive never tried forums before for my condition.

Oh, I actually had a text disappaer once. Not sure if that's the same thing. Thought it was some phone but in my case, though.

I know exactly what you mean, Anika, about the ghosts. That's why in today's world we're ill. But once upon a time we were the ones with the magical powers. We'd be the old seer in the hut on the hill, and everyone would come talk to us to ask us what the spirits or ancestors or gods or whatever were up to. Throw some bones, mix up a tonic, and be in charge of the main event at the best yearly celebrations....
