got this one from a friend.

didon't know where to put it.. but i'll put it here.

I
C E - "IN CASE OF
EMERGENCY"

Apparently
this is a standard procedure all paramedics
follow at the scene of an accident when they
come across your cell
phone.

ICE
- 'In Case of Emergency'
We
all carry our mobile phones with names &
numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other
than ourselves, knows which of these numbers
belong to our closest family or
friends.

If
we were to be involved in an accident or were
taken ill, the people attending us would have
our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call.
Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but
which one is the contact person in case of an
emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of
Emergency) Campaign
The
concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a
method of contact during emergency situations.
As cell (mobile) phones are carried by the
majority of the population, all you need to do
is store the number of a contact person or
persons who should be contacted during emergency
under the name 'ICE' (In Case Of
Emergency).

The
idea was thought up by a paramedic who found
that when he went to the scenes of accidents,
there were always mobile phones with patients,
but they didn't know which number to call. He
therefore thought that it would be a good idea
if there was a nationally recognized name for
this purpose. In an emergency situation,
Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff
would be able to quickly contact the right
person by simply dialing the number you have
stored as 'ICE.'
For
more than one contact name simply enter ICE1,
ICE2 and ICE3 etc. A great idea that will make a
difference!
Let's
spread the concept of ICE by
storing
an ICE number in
our
Mobile phones today!
Please
forward this. It won't take too many 'forwards'
before everybody will know about
this .
It really could save your life, or put a
loved one's mind at
rest .

ICE
will speak for you when you are not able
to.

That's a great idea I know ill do it just in case you never know when you could be in trouble.

Yup. My phone has 3. In order. And my sister has "sister" in parentheses. Though they are not in the ICE list, housemates have "housemate" in parentheses, my psych is listed as "psych" then name...(ya know, 'cause that might be just what they're looking for )
I carry a card with location of and representative for my Advanced Directive too. Hell, had the whole thing right on the passenger seat on those 3,000 mile drives. Pull the plug? Don't even plug it in! Guess who's got vegetable phobias. Other reasons too.
In Case of Emergency is listed at the top of "contacts" in my phone, so there's no hunting around for it, and it lists all 3 in order when you hit the button. This is the case for most (all?) phones, isn't it?

nope, my phone doesn't have an in case of emergency listing at the top.
Thanks for the reminder, tho. I'm going to go put my ICE in, and I think the Dr's office, too. I thought ICE was just an Illinois thing, so when I moved out of state,I didn't think to put it on my new phone.

Thanks again for the reminder!!

I have heard this but I have also heard that paramedics don't necessarily check for it. on my phone they could probably figure out my husband is my main contact since I have over 8,000 texts to him.... (yes, that's right, my phone is insane and doesn't delete as I go....)

If you have a passcode lock how can the paramedic check the phone? My phone is always locked so it makes ICE pointless for me.
