Well, I know that when I have anything going on that really triggers me, I obsess relentlessly. This can last anywhere from a few mere hours to days, weeks, and even months. The obsessivness dominates as racing, repetative, irritated thoughts that I have to act on with research or any other activity toward resolving the issue. I also frequently have intrusive thoughts which are not pleasant and they come and go depending on my cycle.

You can be mis-diagnosed with any mental illness technically, since diagnosis is based on . Usually the misdiagnosis for bipolar is that they tell you that you have major depressive disorder. Another major possibility is that mental illnesses go together in little clusters. For example I'm diagnosed Bipolar NOS, generalized anxiety disorder, schizoid personality disorder. (I'm a NOS because I had to stop treatment during the diagnosis period and never got around to finding out what was the actual I or II but I'm guessing I'm a I.)

I am dxd with pure O and bp2. I doubt a Dr could get the 2 confused tho as there are no extreme mood episodes relating to OCD... It is however quite common to be misdiagnosed across the BP, MDD and BPD spectrums, as the 1 very much looks like the other depending on when the pdoc saw you and what you chose to divulge.

Is agree I don't think it's possible to have mood troubles with OCD although anything is possible.

Schizoid personality disorder is kind of an introverted issue where you do not desire to have strong personal relationships. I find this part of my diagnosis weird and possibly incorrect as I do desire personal relationships, I just am very cautious. Also I like to do certain things alone unless I really, really trust someone. I'm not one that actively will go out and make friends, but I still would like friends, but I am very cautious about people and suspicious of them for a long time. (It's actually very complex.)

Even a well trained, experienced professional can misdiagnose and probably do all the time although the smartest of those are always on the look out for a better diagnosis. I think a lot of mental illnesses share the qualities of others or that certain root illnesses bring out the onset of symptoms of another illness. That and so many of them are comorbid.
