Hi, I really came here out of desperation. My son was diagnosed with bipolar in April, he is 23. That really explained a lot! He was also diagnosed with ADHD. The meds for that helped him so much. He seemed so much better. All of a sudden he started obsessing about space, stars, planets, end of the world, all kinds of things. He thougght he was designated to tell people how to survive if the world ends and he doesn't sleep, he won't go to work. He has always loved his job. Now he is more depressed than ever. He did call his Dr. but they have not called back and I am sure they won't during the holidays. He seems unhappy with his current relationship but doesn't want to change it. Does anyone know anything that could cause this suddenly? He takes Depikote and Focalin. He says he is taking it regularly. I just want to say some words to help him. Sorry this is so long.

Thank you!

Does something trigger or start the manic episode, or can they just be random?
I have never heard of anyone on Focalin and Depikote. But he used to get tickets constantly and have wrecks until he started taking Focalin. He doesn't now.
This is hard to understand. I have read books, but it is still hard.

Thank you!

There can be Many triggers or a manic episode but sometimes they can come out of nowhere. Just make sure he knows you there If he needs you. It sounds like he may need a short stay in the hospital.

Wow..I know this isnt funny, a wreck could hurt him and other people,so why did I laugh? its innapropriate for me to laugh..
Sounds like your a great support to your son..thats nice to hear.I know for myslef Im trying to understand what bipoar is and recognise when Im manic, depression is always there like that stupid dark cloud that hovers in the commercial.
But to have someone on the outside looking in would b a help in managing my disorder.

Hey there, ye I would say BP1 with delusions? The fact that he is having obsessions and he needs to tell pele how to survive the end of the world......that doesn't sound too good. I would call an emergency psychiatrist or something to see what they say. Hope he starts to feel better soon though. Keep posting ok!

Welcome to PC ,

Im sorry you are going through this Your Son is very lucky to have you as his Mom !

Sounds like your son is Hypo or already in a Mania state already. Now would be a good time to stop this in it's tracks. His Pdoc's office will have someone on call for emergencies. Some doctors will will advise a trip to the hospital, others will order a stronger medication to slow/stop the mania.. every doctor is different.

I'm sorry your husband isnt being more supportive.. Some people just can't understand Bipolar at all.

Your son is lucky to have you.. but please remember even while you are helping your son and doing all the other million things YOU do daily.. take time for yourself
