Restless Leg Syndrome is difficult to explain. It can happen to children and adults. I experienced it as a child and for a while as an adult. It is a "feeling" in your legs that makes you feel that you HAVE to get up and move around - it feels like that's the only way to get rid of it and it usually works, except that you have to keep doing it because the feeling will come back if you stop moving. It's not painful (it wasn't for me or my father who still gets it) but it's really frustrating. |

I've had the restless legs (Akathisia). It was horrible. I was taking Thorazine, and also had that with Geodone. Couldn't sit still, couldn't sleep. It was the worst side effect ever. Worst month ever.

That must be so difficult to deal with, SamuelAdams. Have you spoken to a doctor about it? I'm sorry I don't have any advice that I can give you, but from what others have said, there is now medication you can take to help with it. I hope you find some relief, soon. Bluey |

My doctor said that restless leg syndrome can cause depression because its so unbearable. Just a thought you need to defiantly look into that.

i have restless legs since i was a kid. it definetly has gotten worse after i got off suboxone. alot of meds especially major trancs. and the zyprexa, seroquel types make it worse. one doc gave me requip which helps but my pdoc told me that it has dopamine which intrafers with the other meds (lithium, depacote, tegretol etc.) . the restless legs is so bad sometimes i can't sleep. i take a shower (sometimes helps but still feels good). some times i think i'll go back on opiates maybe some marijuana edibles. i really don't know. one time my whole body was jerking we had to go to emergency room...we waited while they took patients with colds and said to each other "this is a joke" and went home. maybe someone will have some juicy advise.

Is this a side effect of your medication?
I had that with Saphris, my pdoc said normally he'd prescribe beta blockers but I have a history of asthma and so he couldn't. I was really trying but over the holidays it got so bad - if I was anxious it got worse, if I was excited it got worse, and on the 23rd I had a small anxiety attack over the whole thing so I called the doctor and I stopped taking it. I could handle it during the day but at night, when I was trying to sleep and desperately tired but the legs keeping me awake was just too much. |

RLS is similar to though not identical to akathisia, so if drugs cause that, you can additional drugs such as Propranalol, Cogentin and another one I do not remember to counteract RLS. If your RLS is endogenous rather than medication-induced, then I have no idea what to do and sympathize with you very much.
