I saw two friends today, after a long gap.

1) the guy who was my colleague when I taught English part time and he taught physics. He works in Toulouse, France and has been for several years but he did his PhD in the US. I last had email contact with him in 1996 and last saw him in early 1990s. From my memory, I recalled that back then he lived in Princeton and had a Thai gf. He corrected me - not Princeton but Rutgers and a Taiwainese gf, now long ex.

Well, not so bad - Princeton and Rutgers are geographically close and Thailand and Taiwan are both in Asia and both begin with a T.

2) Katya, my long time gf whom I last saw in her apartment in 1996. From my memory, her apartment number was 72. She corrected me: it is 70. She lives in downtown Moscow and I found her apartment bldg from memory, without looking up directions online.

On the one hand, it seems pretty good - I remember things pretty closely. On the other hand, I am thinking, if I go back to school and start answering exam questions ALMOST correctly, nobody will give me good grades.

Everyone forgets little details from years ago.. I think that's normal. Your memory is damn good, you remember small details from here on PC that most people wouldn't be able to.

I think you are fine.

Hammie, Your memory is great by my standards! I have people from my high school years who have requested facebook friends and I have no idea who they are-no memory at all, but they must remember me, for whatever reason I'm afraid to ask! I have accepted all of these requests (3, maybe) because I don't want to upset my old friends!
It's funny how our brains process things. I have a great memory for numbers and passwords. My work colleagues keep warning me to write the many logins/passwords down, but for some reason, these all stick in my mind. Meanwhile I have no memories of those great high school friends...
You will do great in any classes that you take, Hamster, you have a keen sense of details, a great quality to have in studies.

Bluemountains, I logged out of AT&T (my internet provider) before I left for the trip because there was a possibility that my ex would be in the apartment sorting through his belongings and I did not want anyone going through my internet history.

Well, I am back and I forgot both the userid and password! Will call AT&T tomorrow.

Shattered Sanity, I also remember the phone numbers of my best friends' parents from twenty plus years ago but have a hard time recalling newly learned phone numbers, probably because there is no need to when you can record them as Contacts.

Bluemountains, thanks, I am now assured that I can deal with the load of schoolwork.

I have to confess: my memory is so bad, I use the same password for every single account I hold. I know that's not smart, but honestly, I'd go off the spool if I had to remember different passwords for each website I visit. I once tried keeping all my passwords on a piece of paper.......I forgot where the piece of paper went. I even tried keeping all my passwords on my iPhone......and then I forgot the password for the password site AND the correct E-mail account (I have several).

My husband and sister are almost as bad. In fact, we often joke that if we put all our heads together, we MIGHT have one fully functioning brain.

I have read that the vast majority of folks have a single password for multiple sites.

I think your memory seems pretty good really. I wouldnt worry about it to much. You where pretty close on those things. So I think also recent information is a good way to jog your memory and your memory may even get better. Well good luck on your adventure.

Clinte, you are right, it will get better if I use it - it is probably a "use it or lose it" thing.

Hankster, good, so I had a good break.
