For the last couple of months I've been so agitated constantly. I'm a little depressed but mostly so agitated I could just scream! I can't see me Pdoc until January 28th
![]() I'm on Wellbutrin and Lexapro. I tried Abilify and it didn't work. At my next visit we had planned to discuss adding a different mood stabilizer. 2 questions: will a mood stabilizer get rid of this? From Googling I'm assuming I'm in a Mixed State right now. Is there anything my family dr can give me to help me relax a bit and get through the next 2 weeks? She is very aware of my psych problems and she is the one that wanted me to see a p doc to start with.

Wellbutrin and Lexapro aren't mood stabilizers. Neither is Abilify.
I think they're treating the depression. You're probably agitated because you're only taking anti-depressants. Can you call and ask them to start you on a mood stabilizer sooner? Maybe even reduce the anti-d's.

I needed the anti D's at first because I was severely depressed. My p doc told me Abilify is a mood stabilizer. Now I'm confused.

Confusedinomicon covered it. Abilify is "an add-on against depression when the anti-depressant alone isn't enough," but not a mood stabilizer--according to Abilify's literature.
You definitely need a mood stabilizer to knock out the irritability, and I wouldn't want to wait till the 28th. Call your pdoc, ask for soonest apt, standby, or prescription--if doc knows what will be prescribed on the 28th. |

They don't prescribe over the phone and the 28th is all they have. I just have to wait it out till then which I'm not happy about

Once I start a new mood stabilizer how long before the agitation stops? Right now I can't stand anyone to touch me or talk to me. I feel like I have PMS x 100,000. I'm so irritable I just want to scream

Your pdoc can write a prescription, which you pick up at the office & have filled at the pharmacy. You go to your appt on the 28th as scheduled.
I think the gabapentin kicked in pretty quickly, 4-5 days & I was calming down some. Topamax was slower, probably a week to ten days. Faster than anti-depressants, I remember that. |

Yes, you're right, in my view. Abilify is a mood stabilizer. I was given it, too, and couldn't take it. Too much even though the dosage was very, very small. As a cyclothymic, you may be taking too much medication.
Ask your psychiatrist about having some allergy testing done to see if you have sensitivities that can be bothersome: e.g., caffeine, gluten, chocolate, atmospheric molds, alcohol, sugar, eggs, milk, peanuts--those are the most common ones. If the results come back indicating high histamine levels, you may need a different treatment altogether. My situation didn't improve until I found the "brain allergies" I had and had it medically corrected by an ENT specialist. I am hesitant to accept these very, very expensive and strong, strong medications without finding out about my body's sensitivities. IMHO, you'd be smart to see an allergist by yourself if your psychiatrist doesn't recommend such testing. You could have the testing done before your next appointment with your psychiatrist and be able to discuss any allergies with him when you see him in on January 24th. (Results come back very quickly from allergy testing.) Just an opinion. Hope you feel better very soon. |

I have tons of allergies, both foods and environmental. My P Doc doesn't do scripts without an appointment. I called them once before about my severe depression. The nurse talked to my Pdoc and then called me back to say that he would see at my next appointment
![]() I'm trying to find another Pdoc but there aren't many where I live and most of them are Medicaid/Medicare only but I have insurance.

I wish you the best of luck and 90 miles I think a new pdoc is defiantly in order. Mine does scripts over the phone if I'm really out of sorts as long as my bloodwork is good and up to date. Wish you the best.

Wow ! So sorry you are feeling so terrible. I'm glad your finding a new Pdoc your current one is a Big Jerk! No reason you should have to wait so long for a med change. You may need to take a second look at your AD's as they could be a possible cause of the agitation.. I can't take them at all.
Good Luck I hope you are able to get some help sooner than your appointment.
