What I mean is this, in the past 6-8 weeks I've either been in a mixed state or depressed. I only felt good a few days. When I'm depressed I crave carbs and binge eat constantly. I've gained 10 pounds. Should I mention this to my Pdoc? Is there anything he can really do about it? I try and stick to my diet and I do good a few days and then I can't fight the intense carb and sugar cravings anymore.

Meds have made me gain some weight, but moods have always done it. Mania no eat, depressed or stable pig out. Never been able to stick to a diet.

Less sick=more weight so that's okay.
Thanks for this!

Do you think you gained it from your meds or does your mental state affect your eating?

My weight gain has come from my medications. I've gained --- around 80 lbs from the medication. First Zyprexa and then Seroquel.

Is it possible to control cravings and weight while on bipolar meds? I want to feel normal but I also do not want to regain the 80 pounds I have lost

You should definitely make it a priority and let the p-doc know that it is your priority. There are weight-neutral medications. Stay clear of the worst offenders such as Zyprexa, Seroquel, Depakote... but even more benign medications (benign in general, as measured by effects on groups of people) can give YOU a weight gain so you will need to be careful.

I polled people here about the worst medication side effects and weight gain came out on top, mentioned by close to 50% of respondents.

Yes, I think you can with the correct medication combo, diet & exercise. I was really close to my target weight on all meds, then I quit smoking
I agree with Hamster, talk to your pdoc.

Good Luck,

TnT

The Pdoc wants me to try Lamictal next.

That is supposed to be weight neutral right?

Yes, the vast majority of folks find Lamictal weight neutral. Only one person on here has gained weight on Lamictal, to the best of my knowledge (and I do notice those things).
