aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Well that helped a little. So frustrated with the simple minded pricks here at work. The company is going through bankruptcy restructuring, but has yet to do any downsizing or take any action to reduce pay or benefits on the hourly union workers, but the union reps and loyalists are planting the seeds of "the company is out to get us" in everyone's heads. This has led to a "**** the company" attitude from the union workers, and productivity and morale has suffered considerably. How hard is it for people to see that union or company, we are all in this together and need to work as a well oiled machine to get us through these hard times, save the mine, and save all our jobs. Apparently, some of these individuals, either due to lack of education or pure and literal stupidity, fully beleive that the union pays their wages, and in the event the mine shuts down or the company goes under, the union will continue to pay them and find them another mine at which to work. Nothing could be further from the truth, as the hourly workers are just that; hourly workers employed by the company to work in their mine. The only difference is that they are organized and respresented by a union to protect their rights as coal miners. The company pays their wages, and if the company fails, they are out of a job and without income just the same as I, a salaried company employee, would be. The icing on the cake for me happened just a little bit ago, when a union employee came and informed me that an individual went to the union reps and let them know that I am going underground daily in an attempt to get my permanent miner's certification. This requires 6 months and 108 shifts of experience. Howerver, as the law is written, a shift is any period of time an individual can prove he was underground working. This proof comes through the individual tracking units we all wear. Tracking devices register you to a computer system and pick you up as you travel throughout the mine. So essentially all you have to do to "get a shift in" is ride the elevator down into the mine, walk to the nearest tracking device, and ride the elevator back up. The union, however, does not feel this is fair or lawful and is preparing to file a grievance against me, so that I will not be able to earn my certification. All I want to do is better myself, get more experience, and potentially serve the company in a larger capacity that makes better use of my skills. But no, people are assholes ![]()
