I told him. And he said, that it's just because I'm 14 - 15, and to come back and tell him again in 5 years...

Is he right? Could it just be that I'm having these highs and lows because I'm a teenager? ... The cutting and everything, and the strange spontanious recklessness. thoughts racing. Is there anyone there, my age, who can tell me if he's right and if I'm just overreacting..?

if deep down u feel u have a problem, then most likely its true...
i had my first major depression and reckless and irritable behaviour episode when i was 13 yrs old. i even remember then telling my mum that i think i have something wrong with me...i think i have depression at least. did she believe me? no. only because i was at a young age and she probably just fobbed it off because i was a teen. but i knew..i knew there was something not right...and now look...i have bipolar 2 disorder...i was right...i knew there was something wrong and because i knew i was able to track my moods and be vigilant as to when my symptoms would begin and end. i went to my school counsellor all throughout my years at school...if u have one i highly recommend u go talk with them..especially since it would be someone who deals with children on a daily basis...i know you've probably heard that from many responses to things like this...but i guess you'll see it again haha.
hope all goes well for u...dont worry about ur father not believing u...if u believe within yourself then its your will that will make u seek help..and thats the main thing

Try your mother; she might be more amenable to listening.

Ask if there has ever been any mental illness in the family that she knows of and
proceed from there. She might help you get in to see the family doctor, and he will
take it from there.

You do need help, in my view.

Take care of yourself well, please.

Moodyness can be typical with raging teenage hormones, but not mania, cutting, or depression. Most pdocs won't diagnose at your age to avoid labeling, but they can still treat your symptoms...

Can you talk to a guidance councilor or school psychologist?

Cutting is comppletely abnormal, agreed. Cutting alone warrants getting immediate help.

Highs and lows, racing thoughts, cutting. This is not normal for a teen ager, especially if it is to excess. Please go see your doctor and ask for the name of a good psychiatrist (pdoc).
Then you can get started on the right kinds of meds for your illness. Good luck!

I think that most of us here would have experiences symptoms in their teens. I had my first depressive episode when I was 14.

If you can't find help outside, please try and take care of yourself at least.

Please go to your regular doctor see him/her alone and show them your injuries. I know it's really scary but it may be the only way to get help when young. I begged for help as a kid. It became a secret as a kid so it was much harder for me to get help as an adult. Keep being vocal about it until someone listens. I'm sorry it's taking more then the first time.

okay, so the cutting isn't normal.

No... I haven't shown him. He hasn't seen. I've made it a point to keep them from my parents. Mainly because I KNOW they frown upon 'such behaviour', and believe it is 'completely for attention'. I would be in so much trouble/sent away if they knew. My mother is not a tollerant person, and so I think she would just laugh at me and say something like 'Your mental? Honey, this whole family is mental! Deal with it!"

I have a very broad family history of mental disorders/brain diseases/cancer. On my fathers side, 3/5 brothers committed suicide, where the fourth was an alcaholic and my father is... my father. Going back before that there is alot of mental issues such as depression. On my mums side, everyone is dead from cancer of the brain... I have a small family.

I think I should try and see someone annonymously? Without my parents knowledge? How do I do this?

Ever tried your local headspace? Where abouts in aus are u? It's a company that help adolescents with mental health issues. They offer services such as seeing a psychologist and even help finding a job! I personally have never been to one before because I haven't needed to...but I highly recommend it! http://m.headspace.org.au/
Hope this helps!!
