Right after that one quit. You could also get a electronic cigarette w/o nicotine.

I've had a doctor tell me not to quit smoking before too! Which is funny because they've banned smoking on most hospital grounds so psych patients can't smoke. You'd think if a doctor reccomends keeping the habit for awhile in a stressful out patient scenerio those people locked up might need it more!

It isn't just the deep breathing that relaxes smokers but the nicotine. It's the addiction plus nicotine is both a stimulant and it can relax you depending on the dosage and what you need to do. Weirdly more nicotine is relaxing, less is stimulating which can help you focus thus ease stress and anxiety.

But you made the poll so I could have two votes so I voted not to smoke and to smoke as much as you want, a truly bipolar response!

My dr said the same thing too.

Yes it is banned here, like everywhere almost. You have to leave the hospital property, like just go to the edge of the property and the hispital I was in allowed that for psych patients if you proved good behaviour and were unlikely to harm yourself or run away. You were allowed a 10 minute outdoor pass if you signed out, asked permission, and only once every 2 hours. They have an outdoor courtyard that is only accesible to the psychward, that used to be where you could smoke and made a lot more sense.

Since our psychward take in a lot of homeless and also people withdrawaling from drugs when you did go for a "fresh air pass" ha that is what they call it , then many of the more aggressive patients would come with you and either try to intimidate you, take your smokes, mmm etc. Very relaxing.

Yea, pretty harsh to not allow someone their smokes when they've gone to psych ward for help. Especially if someone's suicidal I don't see why make things harder for them, stressful time isn't a good time to quit. Here, in the adolescent units, many of these kids are smokers, they allow the nicotine patch only if the parent signs off on it.

So I was doing well but got stress triggered at the grocery store. I'd left my wallet at home and I'd driven 20 mins to town. Had to have them hold the groceries while I drive back up the mountain find my wallet and come back down to store. Ugghh I felt so lame so I just went ahead smoked. Will try to do better today, I've not had desire for one yet today so that's good

Blue you will get it. You have done this before. Go easy this is a hard time. I'm glad you haven't felt the desire today tho. God I hate it when that happens and I do it often, since I walk not drive it's a real pain. But you don't live in town either. Don't feel lame tho, happens to everyone. Driving 7 hours to get to the boarder to find out your passport is still at home... Lame.

That is why I have a tattoo of my head stitched on..literally I would loose that too in more than one way!
