I have been taking Suboxone for nearly four years now. My pdoc said 2 months ago since my life has finally settled down, and most of my stress is gone, that he was going to start weaning me off the medication. He was supposed to start this past month when I went for my appointment, but decided to wait another month. I had to switch to seeing him from the PA I was seeing for almost 6 years because they found out my former doc wasn't actually allowed to write prescriptions for Suboxone. So when I started seeing him, one of the first questions he asked was, "Have you thought about getting off of the medicine?" Of course I have. Now I'm beginning to worry he's never going to start getting me off of it. It's like I traded one addiction for another. If he doesn't start this month when I go, should I go ahead and start weaning myself off of it? I no longer feel the need to take it, it's just the physical effects I will feel without it.

I know it's tempting to do that, deb, but at least research how, and give the office a call and tell them what you want to do. Maybe you'll have better luck speaking to the PA you have such a long-term relationship with vs the doctor who said that was his plan.
Thanks for this!

Hello, Debi54, welcome.

I agree with Wingin'it. It might be better to contact the doctor and let him know what you're thinking about doing. Even better, give him the next 30 days and then notify him at that appointment that you want to remove that medication.

Also, please ask him about using Omega 3 fatty acids to help keep you stable once you stop a medication. Research indicates now that it's very helpful for brain function.
Thanks for this!

Thank you. I am due to see him on the 30th. I will give him this appointment to start. If he doesn't, I will bring it up. I am sick of being on this medicine. I take so many pills now, if I can get rid of one, that would be wonderful. And I feel like I really don't need them anymore, at least not psychologically, and that was the major problem.
