I'm just wondering how many of you are also diagnosed with a personality disorder, and if so, which one? I know there's a handful of bipolar+BPD, but I was wondering if there were many others?

In a lot of ways.... I'm fairly sure that I have one. Not a doctor so wouldn't know for sure. But I keep getting scared that my T is going to bring up the possibility of it. So I thought I would try to get myself prepared for this conversation - a lot of the work he has me doing is based around anxiety and really low self-esteem, and I don't get at all how it's supposed to help because it just makes me feel HORRIBLE whenever I fill out any of it.

So I guess I just want to hear your thoughts on things.

Btw: my own self-guess for what personality disorder I fit the most? It probably isn't noticeable to others because I am so good at faking and trying to meet expectations.... but Avoidant fits me pretty much to a T. I just don't act shy; I learned how to hide that years and years ago.

Panda, my t thinks I have one bit my pdoc doesn't. But now I have personality disorder NOS. I don't fit any disorder, but have symptoms of many. The treatments ate different than the bp but do help me deal with it.

PS: wish they would take it off my records

Dangit I forgot to include NOS!

My T actually said the other time that we weren't going to worry about the BP and we were going to focus on the self-esteem. That's sorta what triggered the "awww dangit" thought-process I've have going on since. And here is the only place I'm comfortable putting those thoughts into words.

I'm just worried that if he brings the topic up... that he'll try saying that he thinks I have Borderline or Dependent - neither of which fit me. The things that I have in common with Borderline are the bipolar and the others much more accurately fit with Avoidant. And I am not dependent in the slightest although he brought the word up - it was in regards to the fact that I simply can't do new things with other people around (like going to a zumba class... I can't go because I'll be horribly embarrassed and won't ever go back because of that. I am trying to convince a friend to go with me, because it gives me someone to focus on and someone to start at the same time I start. Once I got used to being there then I wouldn't need the other person there as much, because I'd fit in as a regular and would have gotten the hang of how things went after a bit.

T's can be quick to tell you to focus on something other than the bipolar. They seem to think if it's bipolar there's nothing to do with it. And they're too fond of personality disorders (that is doable). Don't let them give you a label that doesn't fit.

Oh... I think he moved on from the bipolar because I actually DO have pretty good self-management.... and was probably defensive of it.

He hasn't tried to give me a label really. I'm just worried that when he does he's going to try giving me the WRONG ONE and I want to sort of be prepared for it so that I don't flip out - when I panic I'm most likely to shut right down, but if I get pushed well... it's sorta ugly cause I will completely freak out.

I won't even see him until sometime in September, and I doubt it will come up anytime soon cause there will be catching up from August plus the start of the next school year. I"m likely imagining things, but it's been on my mind a lot.

Not diagnosed, but me and few people suspect i may have borderline traits (but then again... which modern woman doesn't have those?). It does affects me more then I would like to, though.

I score as schizotypal at online tests too... but I kinda think this is one of the ridic diagnoses and stems more from me being shy weirdo than actual disorder.

haha yeah... I get that!

A lot of people tend to jokingly inform me that I'm a wee bit OCD - I certainly can be and do have some of the traits. But overall for me, Avoidant fits me to a T - with the exception that I reallllllly don't present that way, because I learned how to fake it REALLY well at a young age.

Augh. It gives me a headache to think about it actually.
