Please keep coal miners in West Virginia and throughout the country in your thoughts and prayers.
These men and women labor daily to help keep this country up and running. Coal produces over 40% of all the electricity used in the United States. Another coal miner was killed today in West Virginia, the 4th WV coal mine fatality in 2013. Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin (D-W.Va.) signed an executive order on Wednesday, Feb. 20 placing all mines in West Virginia to stand down for at least one hour to review safety procedures. Headed underground for another full shift tonight. I hope today helps to remind everyone to think and work safely...

Wow, what a tough job you have. I will pray for the safety of you and your fellow workers.
What percentage of West Virginians are mine workers? I know it is a great amount, and I know accidents happen, but it seems that I hear of these more than I should. Blessings to you and your family, Bluemountains |

There were 19 coal mining deaths nationwide in 2012.
As of February 21st 2013, there have already been 6 fatalities, 4 of which occur at West Virginia mines. This is a major problem. Here's a link for some more WV Coal Mining Facts. http://www.wvminesafety.org/wvcoalfacts.htm Thanks everyone for the support.

Thank you for such an informative thread. You are in my thoughts as you work and I truly wish you and your crew safety. Coal mines are so rarely spoken of on a wide scale anymore. As if it were a career of the past. I was born in the mountains of V.A. and am fully aware how real and present these concerns are. Please take care and know that there are many in this nation praying for the safety of miners.
