I heard on the radio that a study was done of dating sites and they listed the top ten words used in women's online dating profiles that result in the most dates. I remembered you saying you were working on one so I thought I would share with you. I was driving when I heard this so I may not remember them all and I'm sure I wont remember the order. Some you could only use if they actually apply but I thought it was worth sharing:
girl-nextdoor, small town, educated, Master's degree, sexy, intelligent, fun, witty, adventurous... ok I remembered 9 out of 10 :-)

I don't know about using the "girl next door" one, unless your looking to have some, ummm, fun.

As a guy, the image that brings to mind is the playboy version of the hot, willing girl looking for fun.

Just thought I would share.

I'm kind of shocked that educated and master's degree helped. I spent years online dating and I felt that my doctorate intimidated guys and was rarely a point in my favor.

So glad to be done with that chapter of my life!

Best,
EJ

I was suprised too, but this was a study done over some 50 different dating sites so I guess the results have to be fairly accurate

I actually do have a master's degree. And an unfinished JD. So I will put it. Thank you. I am not sure I am quite ready to put "girl next door".

Do you know which sites are good?

To me "girl next door" is that person that everyone likes her to her face, but then talks about her behind her back. Like she is all sweet and innocent on the outside, but then she is not actually. And like Dan said, the guys are interested in her for one thing. But then the ladies are envious of her because guys give her all the attention.

So.... yeah, I don't know if that is the best thing to put. I guess it depends on what you're looking for.

After your explanation, Dark Heart, no, I will not put it. I also feel that you have to have been born in America to put it.

And, you are a writer, so I trust your explanation of a word expression.

Now I'm thoroughly confused from my understanding, Girl next door is the normal- looking fresh-faced girl, that usually gets overlooked, coz she's no barbie, but her bestie and then some, finally falls inlove with her, when he realizes she's a gem, and they live happily ever after or something along those lines... Re: Joey, Dawson and Pacey from Dawson's Creek, et al. The movie named 'The girl next door' just convoluted this whole term by adding 'porn star' to the plot as a twist... Gross
Thanks for this!

Aaaaand also, this term is how the media used to portray the 'nice' girl celebs, who weren't models, but still beautiful, even when not in the traditional sense. Those like Julia Roberts, Jennifer Garner, even Sandra Bullock. Yeah yeah, I just gave away the fact that I spent years being a media junky, but its for the greater good, and I'm sober now...

So when a guy told me I was a combo of the girl next door with a hard working business lady... lol... oh gawd. I totally slept with him that night too, now I get it.

Hammie, the country you are from is considered the sexiest and most intriguing here, so that's good to mention too!

I'll give an example of "girl next door" first off Jessica Simpson. She's a beautiful girl, yet everyone talks about her behind her back (calling her fat, dumb, etc.) She's actually a very nice person. And she's very sexy and so, guys are interested in her. And women are jelous of her, (which is why I think they talk about her like they do.) I think she is a classic example of a "girl next door." It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it has mixed meanings and mixed messages.

The "girl next door" is always pretty, the girl who is very sexually attractive, but not necessarily the girl a guy will bring home to mom. And yes, it is used in porn a lot.... for that reason!

As for "small town" it is a town that is usually out in the country, some distance from the city. It has a low population where everyone knows everyone. Generally farming communities and Christian oriented in value system.

So the photographer gave me a good deal on the photos - $5 a piece if he does not need to edit them. I thought they were good enough without editing so I said "sure". At this price, I pretty much took everything that was recommended. Not quite everything but close to everything. I will give him a check on Thursday and then he will release the pictures to me. After that, I will get to work on the profiles and will ask for editorial help. But I still need to determine which sites to use.

MommaR, thanks for thinking of me.

They didnt offer an explanation for the small-town being included so Im not sure if its BEING from a small town that the study found was appealing or just having a "samll-town" mentality- ie family values and the like.

I do not think that my wonderful new lifestyle and family values and the like mesh very well together, lol.

Thanks for starting the thread, MommaR, I am really touched.

Thanks, opened an OkCupid account and entered most of these words. And, in selecting body type, chose curvy over overweight because why would I treat myself poorly, right?
