For the past few days I've been having thoughts of harming myself. Will the thoughts go away?
I'm trying to figure out what I should do. I have no insurance. I do have an appt with my therapist on Friday.

Have you ever harmed yourself before? Have you had recent changes in your medication?

I admit that I have the suicide prevention hotline number in my room in case I go there. The number is 1-800-273-TALK. You may want to call them. Just try to hang in there and speak with your therapist about what you are going through.
Thanks for this!

You may want to call your doctor or pharmacist to see if perhaps the med change can cause this. If you feel you are going to do something dangerous and you cannot control yourself go to an emergency dept or call your doctor and say you are in crisis.

Hope you feel better soon.

Cocosurviving, these thoughts that occur such as harming yourself are not the real you. You were created to be gentle, kind, and loving. All these misguided and absurd ideas (not to be mean, please) are part of something you ate that disagreed with your system, something that was said to you in childhood that made you fearful
for your self (or even afraid of yourself). It could be any one of a thousand things
said or done that led you to believe that you may not be as good as you think you
should be.

That's ridiculous. Please see yourself as the having been given a gift of life that is
meant to be lived with gentleness to yourself, love for yourself, and so caring for
others, too.

Whenever these thoughts hit you, try to think "this is not me; it's something that
I've eaten or failed to do to care for myself, but it's not me." And dismiss the ideas
as alien to your person. (I suppose a spiritual person would say that they are the
taunts of evil spirits that want to touch you with antagonism. The other spirits
of spiritual goodness will challenge that for you and give you peace.)

Sounds weird, doesn't it? Read some of the spiritual exercises of Ignatious Loyola
on the internet. They will help you see what's bothering your psyche.

Remember, you're a good person and you have much to give to life.

Take care.

I get such thoughts. I've been rather depressed lately and have been experiencing thoughts of suicide but, I have no intention of acting on them. I've been suicidal before so, simply thinking about it doesn't even concern me. I don't want to act on it so I go on and think about something else if a thought like that pops up.

I don't think if you're simply thinking about harming yourself with no intent of acting on those thoughts that you need to get "help". There isn't much that can be done anyway. It's a symptom of your disorder.

Oh sure, they can fiddle with medications or ask you think about something else but, that's just something to do while the disorder runs its course.

When I feel like offing myself sometimes I remember I have bipolar, give it a few months tops and I'll be fine or even euphoric as hell again.

I've been trying to redirect my thoughts and trying to stay busy. I'm getting more depressed b/c I'm not working right now. I try to get out my place for change of scenery. I start thinking abt my lack of income, how bore I am and things I use to do that I can't. Then the thoughts start. Sometimes the thoughts start when I'm not beating myself up.

The Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (TDMHSAS) has a toll-free statewide phone number you can call for mental health and substance use crisis services. The number, 1-855-CRISIS-1 (1-855-274-7471), will route callers to their local crisis provider.

If you can distract yourself until tomorrow that's great. If not get help.

I went to church and it helped me feel balanced. I'm almost afraid of being home alone and bore. I was able to stay busy today and had a deep talk w/ my support group leader.
