On sleep, try elavil in low dose. Better than benzos.

On guinea pigs, will send you helpful links when I get to my laptop.

I wish I knew too. I love sleep but am only sleeping about 3 hours. How has your mood been? I've been feeling better at times, I think this is part of being bipolar. I hope you get more restful sleep. Hugs, kelly

Cavy House Guinea Pig Rescue

This is in SF. You can adopt a fixed guinea pig from them. Already fixed. Can adopt a couple since they are social.

Plus, even if you are not in SF, the link has lots of good info.

Hamsters: nocturnal, dry poop, need smaller space, solitary.
Guinea pigs: diurnal, wet poop, need a lot of space, very very social.

I have only had hamsters but I have looked into guinea pigs and they are totally adorable!

I have always been told sleep is one of the most important things for a person with bipolar. Sometimes easier said then done.

for me, changes in my sleep cycle always are part of a change in my mood.
When I start sleeping less and less, that is usually the beginning of a mixed or manic mood.

Right now I am on so many meds all I do is sleep.

I too have trouble with my sleep. I have found that taking melatonin with my sleeping pill has helped a lot. You may want to give that a try.
