Here is what it is for me. On the outside, the one that the t is concerned with, is that I hear real voices from actual people, who really aren't there. I will look in the direction at times, but I know there won't be a person there-even though I wish there was, because these are people I want to see.
Then there are the voices inside my head. These are the people I keep a constant dialogue with. I believe this is my way of reasoning through upcoming conversations, what ifs, etc. I can compare it to my son, who also has bp. He reasons out everything with me verbally. I think it is because he is not able yet to handle these conversations in his head, and he is comfortable enough to share with me. For me, hearing "real" comments around me are something that I know is not real, even though I hear them anyway. Conversations in my head are my way to work out the world. Bluemountains |

inside voices are in your head
outside voices are coming from any external source. it can be a real person thats really not saying anything or even something like a plant. voices inside your head can seem more like thoughts can be loud like if you have headphones on. or a speaker inside your head. one sure thing is if you cant control them and they talk about things that you dont say. especially if they are in diff gender than you. stuff like that. outside voices are more easily explainable. you can hear sounds or music that isnt there. you can hear phrases or a word (or words). or you can being called. i have voices both inside and outside of my head. i get outside voices speaking a sentence here and there and my name. lots of mumbling and snippets of conversing. inside its like a loud speaker and they have a constant dialogue most of the day. i do have breaks from them though from time to time. they try to get me to tell them stuff and then theyll tell me to do things. loads of different stuff. im 22 yr old female and the voices are usually 40 to 50 yr old men. i have no idea why.

I've heard my name called or thought I caught someone out of the corner of my eye, only to turn around to find myself alone. This has happened during an acute mania/severe insomnia period. I think it's common enough, and as you can see, you're not alone

frankly, i think the general pop. has these issues from time to time. most won't admit to it. in some it is worse than others and when it interferes with daily living, that is when it is a problem. i guess the big Q. is HOW do we deal with it when it does interfere with our lives?
