It's possible that the same thing may have occurred in your community. Someone who knows your situation, who may have been reading some of the threads on this forum, could have determined that it was you and knew all about your situation with Jason, etc., and might have known that a psychotic break might be about to occur.

In my view, that's the most likely scenario, frankly. So few of the people here know
virtually anything about anyone else except to recognize symptoms of psychopathy,
depression, bipolar illness, etc.

You might think about that.
Believe me I am a hermit and have been for a long time. No one knows me at all.

Well, it's good, Speed, that you are deciding to remain with the forum. People here
really mean well, I think, and maybe you might be able to get some helpful ideas along the way.

Keep your friends updated on how you are. Living as a hermit doesn't sound like the
best route for you in the long run; you need people, too, don't you?

No I am waiting to talk to a moderator. I want to delete this account and open a new one. If that is not possible I will leave. Trust has been broken!!!!!!

I do not think that a new account will solve the problem of posting PII in the past using the old account.

You need to go through the history of posts and ask the moderator to delete posts with PII, if you find such posts. Moderators can delete any post from the past.
Thanks for this!

Yes that's a good idea Hamster said, watching you go through this I'm considering what personal info I've shared too. I'm a private person despite how I open up here. I think it's a gross violation. It just rubs me the wrong way especially if the person never pm'd you or anything. I of course care about your safety but feeling suicidal and trying to talk about it are not illegal, I don't like police at my house.
Thanks for this!

I am sorry that happened to you speed. I've had a similar thing happen to me except it wasn't the police. The forum called my house even though I don't remember giving out my number. I don't think it was this forum who did it though. It might have been Crazyboards. They called my house to talk to my parents about putting me into the hospital. I was severely psychotic back then. Sometimes I'm afraid that will happen again. Or what you had happen with the police. People try to help on PC. I've been on several forums that cyber bullied me. People are trying to help but I think they crossed a line for actually sending the police to your house. That would make me paranoid. Even more so than now. It's like wanting to get help on here but now you fear it because of what someone did. If I had that happen to me then I would be scared to death to write on here, but its good that you will try to stay on here after talking to a moderator.
Thanks for this!

I am just guessing but I think it goes back to when you posted the info about Jason's funeral and book to sign. Also you have asked if anyone knew a good therapist in your town X.

You have gone through hell, and many times your posts are scarey and suicidal, and yes we have all been very scared for you when you post this way then kind of vanish for a day or 2. Whoever made the call I am certain they just got very worried for you.

I remember a post on here... a member posted and had taking alot of medications you were trying everything you could to get the mods or Doc John to find out where the member lived or a phone number, anything.. and it was very traumatic for you. It is scary for all of us when someone here is in trouble.

A few people on here have my phone # and can call me anytime if they feel I am in trouble..

Speed we all care about you. we just want you to be safe. Hopefully, since you know who called you can speak to them and it will be something positive.

I hope you find out who did that, Speed. That was inappropriate and I would be angry too.

I'm sorry you were blindsided with a police visit, Speed. Someone definitely crossed boundaries. I didn't even know that this kind of information could easily be found, although what Christina says makes sense.

I would never take such a bold step, but I have to admit that I have really been super-concerned about your depression. I hope that you will continue to come here for comfort and words of encouragement.

I hate it happened to you.

I don't understand how someone from PC would know your address. Even us knowing your city and state is not enough for the police to find you.

I had something like that happen to me about 15 years ago. The person called the police and later my parents, giving me no way to have a place of refuge. Please try to keep this as a refuge even though someone stomped all over here.

Have you thought about someone tracing your IP address online? If you were truly suicidal, and told me how you were going to do it, and I knew info about you I would not hesitate calling the police! I don't care what line is crossed. I have done it before and it saved their life. No it was not me who called the police on you but whoever did it was only looking out for your life no matter what. Whether it was a real situation where you needed police intervention I can't tell you that. But I've had the cops save my life and I have saved someone else's life by calling police. And it was someone on these forums. I knew his name and where he lived though.

Speed, I definitely remember you posting info about your son's funeral.

You posted his full name, and I believe you also posted a link to the funeral home's website.

I'm sorry you feel betrayed, but if one of the members of the forum states (as you did) that they are preparing to end their life, are we all supposed to just let that happen?

P.S. You posted that you know who called the police. It wasn't me. I'm just throwing the question out there for discussion. If we really think someone is about to harm themselves, and they have not been online or checking PMs recently and haven't responded, do we sit back and do nothing while wondering if that person has committed suicide?

Im not surprised by someone calling the police. Im only new to posting here but Ive been following your posts before I registered and they were getting increasingly suicidal - Im guessing someone was just really worried and thought they were doing the right thing? Im sorry it happened though - I know how hard / scary it is to have the police show up like that. I've had them take me away for treatment many times.

Would be interested to know how they got your details though.

Hope you're feeling a bit better now

i feel so bad this happened to. i agree if someone felt worried for you they should have said something.

on the privacy thing though - i just started browsing the bipolar forum a month ago or two or so. i didnt see your name come up much until i read about your sons passing...

im not trying to be offensive but you posted so much info about your son (his full name in i think your sig) and the situation - i kept thinking how thats completely the wrong move to make at such a delicate time. of course i didnt say anything. then i saw you post your psychiatrists/docs # yesterday. i always think how i build relations online and can get extremely close to others. but flat out - i just dont know the people behind these computers - and i just dont know who else would see the info thats passing through here as a Guest.

I'd just like to say that yes, calling the police/mental health authorities could save a life if someone is very suicidal. But there is just no way that it could save my life, because that's not how I work. So yes, I see why some people want to call the police and feel it is their duty, but really, a much better idea is to do like speed says and call the pdoc. Some people are not helped by detaining/sectioning them.
Thanks for this!

lol i agree its not how i work either.

id rather drive myself to a hospital before i let the police take me. and thatd still be an extremely last resort. hell ill drive myself to the police station if things became apocalyptic.

...but they sure as sh_t arent gonna put their copcop wheels within a half a mile of my property line.

I think Newtus got the nail on the head with this one. You did have your son's name in your signature for a long time. All someone would have to do is Google his name and some other detail and it can lead right to you.

true.

not trying to scare you Speed (and def not saying i did this to you) but having been around people that hack others computers and watching my dad at his job (he used to do a form of hacking/unlocking computer hardware professionally for a huge company) - also having been in trouble legally at a young age for something skewed off of something like this--------i personally can know as little as someones first name and and see their face and learn everything else.

having seen all sorts of stuff like this ive actually become an advocate to tell people to protect their privacy online and social networks. with so many social networks and people being - for lack of better words "lazy/uncaring" or maybe i should say LOOSE with their info online its 50x greater someone to find out every single thing about them than a decade ago on the internet.

I think Newtus and Dark are right and the signature was a give-away. Or, the give-away.

Speed, you cannot undo letting this info become available to a person or people who have already recorded it, but you can retroactively change the signature on the old account, and that would remove PII from all your posts made using the old account. No need to delete the posts. You just need to log in using the old account, go to "edit signature", and delete everything. The change will propagate immediately to all of your posts made using the old account. This really needs to be done because it is simple and effective - you posted a lot using the old account and deleting the posts would take forever if done manually by you.

Another approach is to ask a moderator to delete ALL posts made using the old account - maybe they have this capability.

I know who did it we have sent Pm's back and forth. I forgave her, the intent was good.

I have always been too trusting. If I stay on here I will have to work with a moderator to delete a number of posts.

Besides today is my Birthday, I don't want to be angry on my BDay.
