So, some of you saw my other thread, I am sick and my mom finally made an appointment for me to go in. But of course, the day before I'm supposed to go, my cough that yesterday sounded like bronchitis, sounded like that this morning but it now sounds like, really normal. Just raspy but not as deep. I still feel really tired and now I have lost my appetite and I feel like someone is sitting on my chest and I only sometimes wheeze. But I feel like I shouldn't go to the doctor tomorrow, like it's getting better now. I don't know....

Should I still go? Even if I might be getting better?

I just feel bad, because my mom was telling me how much it costs to go and it's A LOT and I just don't want to waste her money...

But I'm also upset, because anytime I ask to go to the doctor, my mom usually doesn't like taking me because nothing is ever wrong. Well, not all the time. But just this once, I would actually like to prove that I should go to the doctor....

Worst the doctor can say is you're ok. If you're sick though, he/she can help you get better.

I've learned the hard way that putting off your physical health needs is a terrible idea. Better safe than sorry on that kind of stuff. Even if it is something mild now, untreated it could develop into something more serious.

Go get checked out. Get well soon.

"I still feel really tired and now I have lost my appetite and I feel like someone is sitting on my chest and I only sometimes wheeze."

That right there doesn't sound good. Especially if you are including a raspy cough with it. I would go to the Dr. They are going to need to determine if there is a bacterial infection going on and if so you will need antibiotics.

I think the key thing that sounds bad to me is that it feels like someone is sitting on your chest. That just sounds bad to me.

Hopefully things work out with your mom and it doesn't cost to much and she doesn't give you too hard of a time about it. I know Dr.'s and money are huge issues in my life as well. It is very frustrating trying to figure out when to go and when to save money. It is tricky.

Good luck,
C and Oliver (my Service Dog)

That was my thought that I just had too. Maybe it's just a good day today and if I cancel, it gets worse again and I'll have to wait. I've already been sick 10 days now... So I suppose I should just go and get checked out. The worst she could say is I'm fine, as the above poster said.

And yeah, I suppose that's true. I am asthmatic too, so I suppose it'd be good to check in.

Hello. I am not a doctor but I work at a hospital and I've seen many doctors : ) First of all, have you been running a fever? I am going to assume you have not, that would be a good sign. Second, the "raspy" sound, I am assuming that has something more to do with your asthma than an infection. You either have a bacterial or viral infection and it may have irritated the asthma or possibly the weather (it is allergy season where I live) has caused some inflammation. Either way, I agree that you should see a doctor. If you did not have asthma I would say it is really up to you because those coughs that people have been getting lately really linger and treating the symptoms is mainly what I see people doing but asthma is a more difficult thing and it is important to remember what asthma is and how it is affecting you internally. I am guessing that your mother does not have insurance on you? If not, is there a minute clinic in a CVS or a clinic in a Walgreens anywhere near you? Those can sometimes be cheaper. You could also call around to urgent cares and primary care offices and tell them you are private pay and if they could give you a discount on the visit. They will often do that as it is up to them what to charge. I wish you the best, take care of yourself and don't ever feel bad for needing to see a doctor, especially when you don't have insurance, that is when too many people ignore their symptoms. God bless you!

Thank you! I don't know what it is, it might actually just be a really nasty cold, but we'll see. I'll find out tomorrow!

And I have had a fever on and off. It keeps fluctuating.

That's what I told my mom, especially the first few days when I literally couldn't breathe. She actually had to sleep with me to make sure I didn't wake up not breathing. But at least she's letting me go now. Even if I'm okay now, I'd rather get checked out.

Yea you should go and get new inhaler and stuff, those are hard to get now new laws. Make sure it's not pneumonia too. Give mom lots of love and thanks for driving you, that might soften her. Good luck.

so you have chance to spend money and you are thinking of refusing it? you know how hard it is to get shot at some revenge there is thing called karma. if you dont spend her money some other thing will come up and she will have to spend money. you are angry at your mom. so your mom has lot of bad karma. and if you love your mom you will spend her money and save her from this bad karma

I went today and actually had to take myself, because my mom was running errands and had to take our dog and my sibling to appointments. But I'm glad I was alone, because I was able to tell my symptoms without her interrupting and saying I was wrong. The doctor was like "Well, your throat looks awful, your lungs sound awful, and your ear looks awful." So I'm pretty sick. I'm on antibiotics now, though. So I'll be better soon, I hope.
