Since I got sent home from Italy, I have to finish up my classes long distance. I have to take my finals the same time other students do, in early May; someone at a local community college will proctor them for me. I also have several class projects to complete within the next few weeks.
The problem is, that I feel really unmotivated. It's so hard to get things done for school when you don't have to go to class! I've fallen far behind, and I'm not sure how I'll catch up. I feel like I just can't do it. Every time I sit down to do something, my inner voice starts speaking. "You don't have to do this you know." "You should stop now." "Just give up." "Oh God, make it stop!" (work is painful for me). It's so hard to keep going when I really don't want to do the work. I tried scheduling four hours worth of work per day (which still isn't enough to get me caught up, but I thought I'd start slowly); I was actually able to stick with it for a week! But now, I can't seem to do it anymore. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. I feel like I have to fight so hard just to do basic everyday things; classwork, e-mails, remembering what to do and motivating myself to do them...I hate ADHD. Thanks

Are any of your parents home for the day? Can you have your parent role play the 'assigning of work' and then have them check it for completion?
That may help motivate you to get some of the work done. I can't do distant learning because of this reason, myself. >_>

If not a parent, is there a friend who could step in?
I'm not self-disciplined at all, and gave up on distance learning before my course even really started. I do know that I need someone to "answer to" in order to get certain things done. Or I'll just be all "whatever" or "do it later"... Upside? Atleast I'll never start my own business just to sink it before it even floats. I know I can't possibly be my own boss! ![]() Sorry, other than someone playing sherrif Idk what to do ![]() Sorry its been so rough ![]() |

It took me 7 years to complete a 3 year degree long distance. I know it's hard. Try work out what time of the day works best for you - I always did better in the mornings, and rather got to sleep nice and early.
Break your material into chunks, until you can work out what you NEED to do daily. Then push yourself to stick with it. And know that you are close to the finish and giving up now is not an option. You can do it

Go to a library and "take" your classes there. Set up timers like 10 min. intervals so you only misplace 10 min before the alarm refocuses you.

Hi Secretum, you're in a similar situation to the one I was in. I quit my programme because I couldn't get myself to study anymore. What I did wrong (and I sort of knew it at the time, just couldn't fix it) was that I stressed. A LOT. Lots and lots of stress and worry. It made it impossible to study in my depression, even though I have been able to study previously while even more depressed. So try to avoid stress, think productively and constructively. It is not the end of the world, and there will be other chances, but studying and passing is definitely you best option if you want to think about the future. I hope you find a way to do this Secretum! Sending you my thoughts and a hug!
