do u carry conservation in your head by yourself? I constantly am talking to myself non stop. I will talk out a conservation to appt 2 weeks from now. I will talk a conservation about a tv show. I will talk a conservation about what i want to email. Then this conservation stays in my head forever going around and around.. I get so frustrated that my brain is talking all the time that i carry on that conservation. Please tell me im not alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So not alone.

I talk out how I wish conversations had gone
I talk out how conversations might go if something crazy happened.
I talk out conversations to make sure they sound natural when writing... I may repeat one or two lines over and over...

Try write these conversations down. You may find a common thread when revisiting them, or it can also be a useful tool for therapy.

I do this all the time when I'm writing, but also when I'm about to have an important discussion with someone or I want something from them. I don't think it's a bad thing per se, I just think out what I'll say and how they'll respond so that I can get what I want :P

I used to do that all the time, but it was hard finishing a conversation. I would always be stuck in a loop in the beginning having got off track somehow and would have to start over again and again and again. now that I am stable I don't do it so much anymore.

I have the same issue! Obsessively talking to myself either out loud or in my head about the way I would want to say something (like rehearsing it) or some sort of day dreamy thing I wish would happen. Or convos I'd wish to have.

I dunno I think it's pretty normal. How else would writers do it?

Exactly. I don't know where this idea of "talking to yourself means your crazy" came from. I figure that people who don't talk or think to themselves must not be very interesting (hence they have nothing interesting to think or talk about with themselves).

Although, I'm pretty crazy, and most writers are also pretty crazy...

I think it's normal to play out conversations in your head. I do get stuck in loops also, obsessing about how I would like something to turn out.

Now for me, I have a bit of a different thing. I have another person thing in my head. She's part of me, but she's not me. She's Other Me. She helps me with things and is my friend. I talk to her all the time both out loud and in my head. She doesn't come forward and is more like a guide or an advisor or observer. But, I know she looks different than me. Other Me has been with me for a long time, so long I don't even remember her not being around.

Normal or not, I like Other Me and I'm glad I have her actually.

So eerily similar to something I've got going on too. She becomes vocal mostly when I become very upset. She's there to take care of me when I can't do it myself. Nice to know I'm not the only one.

Hi Sprik,
I began talking to myself since age 4 as a a way to cope
cause I was left home alone a lot.
I've been doing it ever since.
Due in part because I'm lonely.
That's it.
Just thought I'd drop in to say hi.
Gotta go I'm manic & lonely and not liking
life a whole lot today.
You take care.

This^ I play out the conversation as if I were actually having it with someone else... Alternate routes, my reactions to theirs, that stuff. I replay what I'm going to say over & over before I make the simplest of phone calls. Before I go into the gas station. It's exhausting. But it generally stops when I'm actually having conversations with people- and for me, at work, it's conversations with lots of people... I guess my brain is just too busy to talk to itself then.

I'm not sure it is. I think it's just a creative person thing.
