So....I feel like I've gained a few memberships lately to clubs I didn't intend to get invited to. I recently became a member of the broken bone club along with the major surgery and bone graph clubs. This led to the prolonged, intense physical therapy club. Oh and I mustn't forget the newest edition.....
the having a job royally f*** you over after having a medical leave of absence club. Which leads me to my reason for posting this. I hate work. I hate corporate America. I hate the have-to's and need-to's. I hate money. And yet, every waking moment is focused on going to work or finding a job, being the best a brightest model I can be. Or, living just to get the next have to or need to accomplished and the money to achieve it all!!!!..... So, essentially, I hate what it means to be alive in America today. I contemplate, is it really more truth to say that I hate being alive? I'm not looking for caudling here. Just if you feel me here, leave a comment. If you hate the cycle you ride, even if it's not work related let it out here. I know I'm not the only angry, frustrated person here.

I agree. Sometimes it makes me physically ill and I just want to go up to new England and find a patch of woods that I can forage from And call it a day. I wish I could live like that!!!
No words of wisdom just letting you know I understand!

I'm also a part of that club and shortly after I had the EXACT same disdain for corporate America. After I returned from leave I think I lasted about 2 months before I found a new job. There ARE good jobs out there even WITHIN corporate America that won't treat you like crap.

I think that a world which values money over all things is just a terrible place. That's the world we live in. If you are unable to work for whatever reason, people look down on you like you're worthless. It's pathetic. Human life is not valued on that of the all mighty dollar. People are valuable for things that don't earn money. It makes me sick.
And for what? Money. And what is money. A representation of gold in a building somewhere. And if tomorrow society collapsed, what is gold worth? Can you eat it? No. Can you drink it? No. Can you build it into a shelter? Not without a hell of a lot of it. What is the value of gold? Oh, it's pretty. Wow. Stupid. I hate the dollar society. I hate the idea that we have to sit at some job all day away from our families. I spend more time with my job than my family. I hate that. My grandfather was a farmer and then he made his land into sub-divisions. He worked his whole life within walking distance of his house, his wife, his kids. And all of them helped and worked together. So yeah, I hear you.

I totally feel it. I have left every job I've ever had. I work hard and am reliable, always get great references, but I feel so boxed in not by the time spent but by the fact I cannot be myself in the least. Do the job AND in effect play a Disney character, without anyone acknowledging the latter. It felt insane. Then there were working conditions that are comfortable for other people but agony for me. 8 years and they get worse, not better. I tried.
![]() And it's not just the corporate world. The environmental science world is rife with ridiculous compromises and "sustainability" fantasies and lies. It boils down to let's make human nonsense sustainable, and not really focus on sustaining the natural world. That comes in a distant third after society and economy. Or is that economy and society. Yes, I think it's the latter. Still struggling to find a place in this world for me, even though I'm past the half-century mark. Been working with a freely downloadable book someone here linked me to, and I'll link it here again because I am finding it thought provoking: Welcome to the home of Barbara Sher's WISHCRAFT! |

Keep it coming. I don't even care if it's work related. Really! I feel frustration is best dealt with when released.
Nessa: Ha! I get what your saying though. I've been back I guess oh, 7-8 wks. I'm hanging onto that insurance. They want to play around with my money, that's fine, but as long as I play along, for now, everything keeps rolling for me. I've got an interview on Monday, I'm hoping this one's the charm. Anyway it made me chuckle to think of your two months lasting when I realized that's about how far along I am in all this myself. dark heart: I'm with you totally. It's the dollar society I hate, not exactly the corporate side. Ok, yeah the corporate side too. hermit: That's usually my story. Always growing bored and fluttering away to some new job. I'm a good worker when I'm there, but something always goes wrong. I hate my current situation. As someone who has never lasted more than a year ANYWHERE, I have been with my current job for almost four years and have more than dedicated my life to them. As in literally had no life, no freedom. Now this piddly 10-20hrs maybe if they need me, stripping my position and discussing lowering my wages. ugh!!!! So freakin mad! Thanks Pink

Ok, so I just saved my biz and have an awesome well paid work contract for 3 years - no complaints there unless he tries to make me work from home less..
Since you welcome any topic: I hate my son's school!!!! Why the heck isn't self esteem built, taught, respected? Why do they allow teachers to be mean to poor little kids. I don't care if a kids a trouble maker or whatever - the teacher chose that job and should be trained well enough or paid well enough to be motivated to show the kindest care to every child. I'm about to homeschool... but dangit catch 22... who would go to work for me??? |

Blue I hear ya loud and clear! Though I must add, coming from the perspective of someone who went to college to be a teacher, didn't finish but that's another tale, teachers most certainly are not trained and quite frankly not paid well enough to meet all the standards from every direction. I mean parents want one thing, the school system another, the government another, and yet the kids all have things they'd rather be doing.
Better training, oh yes, I certainly agree, but seeing the other side, I kind of feel bad for the poor teacher who hates their career choice. Doesn't make it right to take it out on and be mean to the kids, just saying, sucks to be the teacher...I almost became that teacher I think, what with my irrational outbursts and whatnot.

I am very glad I'm not a teacher! I think I would lose my cool and get fired. Unless it was like a college professor position where you have people, grown up people choosing to be there, and they are usually paid well.
Maybe I need to put him in a private school where teachers might be happier without all the govnt restrictions and requirements, but sooo expensive. My best friend is a teacher in public school hawaii, she's good at it, stays calm but controls her class. She and her husband chose private school for their kids because she says the teachers are paid better and are happier with more freedom to really teach. I'm sorry to hear about your recent acceptance to the broken bone club, but me too! Well, not me but my older son, and not a fun club. I hope you're healing ok. We're having a heck of a time finding a surgeon to fit him in the schedule. What a nightmare. |

The private school and teachers being happier thing makes sense. I guess I never thought of it that way because I was being groomed for public school. My last semester there I remember one of my professors pulling me to the side and asking me to think about my career choice. She said I'm not trying to change your opinion, but just because a person loves to learn doesn't mean they love to teach. I later realized how much truth there was in that statement for me, but I've yet to figure out what career path that's supposed to lead to.
Anyway, I hate to hear your son has joined as well. It's not fun at all. I hate that you're having such a hard time finding a surgeon. I kinda got pushed on up the chain of command until a doctor was qualified to touch my finger, so I went went almost three weeks before getting surgery, which I might add that I worked every single day from the day after Christmas to the day I had surgery without a day off. OOOh, still steamed at those dirty bastards. I mean the one time I do good and last at a job and what good did it do me. I did a doozy for a first break honestly. I've healed nicely but the therapy is so frustrating and painful. On Christmas day I fell off of my horse and blew out my middle knuckle which also fractured the finger longways. I learned that less than a decade ago this surgery didn't exist and my finger would have been amputated. So thank goodness that didn't happen.
