I'm wondering if anyone here has had success with Seroquel. Where it's proven very effective for symptoms while minimizing the side effects, at least to the point of being tolerable and/or worth it. I've had such a hard time on it lately and am fed up, but I'm also afraid to get off of it for various reasons.

I'd also be interested in hearing from people who stopped it due to side effects and were able to successfully transition to another, effective, medication. And if you did this, how did you manage to titrate down the Seroquel without freaking out, how did you balance starting a new med w/lowering the Seroquel...

Thanks, this has become a big struggle for me. I could give a long list of pros and a long list of cons, but it's complicated and it's hard to decide. I'm going to talk to my pdoc about it, but would like to hear from people who have experienced it first-hand -pdocs have research (and the experiences of some of their patients), but here in this forum is the real thing

Thanks for this!

Ugh. No. 50mg Seroquel XR gave me severe muscle pain & stiffness. I could barely get out of bed I had mixed feelings to begin with about taking it. Wanted it to work but also was scared about weight gain.

I done nothing but eat when I was taking it so I stopped it...I gained weight which isn't a good thing, I wanted to eat anything sugary, I will never take it again plus I felt like a zombie.

Upside : I slept really well, slowed my racing mind down a small amount.
Downside: made me want to eat my couch. I have Anorexia so at the time I wasn't eating very often. Yet I still gained weight !

So I dumped that med with in 3 weeks. I refuse to gain a ton of weight and then have to deal with all the health problems that result from it.... My Pdoc agrees.

No. I felt like a zombie. Zyprexa works for short term but they all shrink your brain. Take them only when manic.

The weight gain sucks but is manageable for me. If I take it at the same time every night drowsiness isn't an issue. It's raised my BSL but I'm keeping an eye on it. Positives outweigh the negatives for me. I have a clear mind, slower thoughts, less agitation, no suicidal thoughts and a stable mood.

I could not take it at all. Even half or a third of a 25 mg pill made me sleep for hours.

Okay, so I'm one of the failure stories. I was on it for a month and it didn't do much for my mood other than the first few days (to be fair, though, I was only on 100mg) but it made me start gaining weight and I had ED tendencies already so that wasn't going to fly. I just quit cold turkey and was fine. I'm doing better on Abilify, still have my ups and downs, though. Going up to 10mg tuesday, crossing my fingers.

eat the couch. Is it at least a leather couch? That struck me as really funny.

...Kinda off topic, but how can you take care of kids when all you want to do is sleep?

taking 25mgs, I slept however the weight gain and blood sugar levels were out of control. It also affected my coordination. I went off cold turkey. wasn't a large dose, taking Abilify 30mgs, works okay so far.
