I have used it as a way of distracting myself and trying to deal with depression and physical pain. I have used some tapes, too, but for some reason, I just don't like having to sit and listen to them.

I think looking at pretty pictures might work better for me. I haven't tried it though....

I love it. I use guided meditation imagery cds. I also imagine stories and beautiful places and see them in detail and full color. This helps me feel safe and helps me go to sleep. I do it almost every night I go to bed. Utube has some free guided imagery meditations. Those and just breathing are my fave meditations. Forget about sitting full lotus for an hour watching my thoughts...mindfulness meditation...my mind is just TOO FULL for that now but it helps a lot of people.

Imagery has a profound effect on the unconscious mind. Ask anyone in advertising or graphic art his views on imagery.

I think it was Red Skelton who said something like this: "if advertising on t.v. isn't affecting people's feelings, why does industry pay millions and millions of dollars to advertise their products on television?

T.V. is obviously a frequently used imagery by people.

I cut it out of my life because I found that, in many cases, the programs were
being less and less appealing, and the news more and more stark; neither of which is very uplifting in feeling tone. But it makes money for those in the television industry. And you may believe that they do their research in planning the use of their time on television.

Negative? Yes. True? Yes.

Just look at the number of movies, tv programs, news articles that are directed to the lower human instincts to get an idea of what it's all about in a general sense. It's the dollar bill that is speaking, and there is little regard for the injury to the very sensitive unconscious mind.
