I currently would sleep only two hours a night without it. But I hear it's addictive and can be bad for the mind long term.

It is part of the benzo family so it is addictive but I couldn't find anything about it harming the brain.

A few years ago I was taking 60mg Restoril and 3mg xanax (with some other bipolar meds) to help me sleep. I started waking in the middle of the night unable to speak, I could only moan. I also had difficulty walking. I was very frustrated but there was little I could do when this occurred. I would go back to sleep and in the morning I was normal.

My EEG and MRI were normal. So the aphasia seemed drug related. I stopped taking the Restoril and the 'episodes' stopped. I since have taken Restoril 30mg on a few occasions with no problem but I won't take 60mg again.

Great for sleep! Craptastic withdrawals but easy if you taper. Only supposed to be used short term (a week or so). I found that out after being on it for over 2months...I miss it though.

restoril in older adults can be difficult and cause nightmares and nightime wakening that is hard to take care of with getting out of bed and losing their balance.
