I was wondering how many of us have kids with special needs?

My middle son displayed multiple learning and developmental problems almost from birth. He was very speech delayed and has very weak fine motor skills. At 18, he still receives special education support services in speech and occupational therapy. He also has ADHD that has been a huge challenge for him. He has severe problems with organization and memory, and in more recent years he has displayed some serious impulse control problems. The complex layers of issues he battles day to day has led to depression and anxiety. If one of my sons ends up with a bipolar diagnosis, it will probably be him, but his pdoc is in no rush to make that diagnosis yet which is perfectly fine with me. It's on the table though.

My other two sons have never shown signs of these kinds of problems.

At this time I say no. My 10 year old is very sensitive (reminds me of me as a kid,) so I just keep an eye on him, let him know I"m there and let me know if he needs to talk. I pay close attention to emotional cues, things he says, etc.

My 6 year old I feel may be leaning ADHD, but he's 6 and I'd rather just watch him the same way for now.

Baby has a temper. I call him the Hulk. But, he's 18 months so that's not all together abnormal.

This part made me giggle! my friend's baby is about the same age... and he gets affectionately called Zombie Baby. He is a biter, but in like... the way that you'd see Bugs Bunny bite a carry to pieces really fast. lol.

I have four children. I have two on medication, and I hate it. One for a mood disorder and the other for adhd. My oldest daughter, not on meds, has a learning disability, but with accommodations she does very well. My youngest son without any diagnoses is the one that requires the most attention at home. I fear in the future that he will need outside help, but meanwhile he does very well at school so we can deal with him at home. I don't know what or if he will one day have a diagnosis, but he does not see reality, he only accepts the world the way he sees it. For example, he is thirteen and we were talking about drug usage and good choices. I talked about my brother, who has used marijuana every day since he was 15. He is 48 now. When I shared this with my son, he completely fell apart. I had to back up and lie to him because he was so distraught. He doesn't see reality, and I worry that one day he will lack the mental stability that is needed to handle the world.

I have one DX as ADHD and one still TBD. Poor little chica just failed first grade, because apparently that's possible?! We shall see. I refuse to test her just yet (6 y/o). Sending her to the private school that my son has blossomed at instead for now. They have 2 sisters with the same Dad and both have "issues", albeit un-diagnosed.

This is what happens when you are Bipolar, don't know it, get manic, get pregnant and marry a crazy Mexican artist twice your age. I should do high school mental health & birth control seminars TMI?

Miguel's dr at one and a half suggested he had developmental issues but she also wanted us to put him on a diet. He was the high and weight of a three year old. We prompedly ignored her because we felt she was holding him to three year old standards. We soon after was by a daycare provider he needs a sibling, he was changed out of that class after we had several meetings with the director about his behavior but come on he was only two. The other class he never had issues because they accommodate for his quarks. somewhere around 3ish-4ish we decided to homeschool.

New state, new school, new doctor. We loved his first dr. But he told us as long as we feel we can handle his behavior and he was being homeschooled then there was no reason for an evaluation. This dr seriously i can not say enough good things about. He told Miguel that he was checking on the frog in his ear when checking in his ears. He didn't charge us for having to check if the frog was still there because Miguel was tilting his head and hitting his ear to shake the frog out. Miguel logic" Frogs don't live in ears they live out side with there family's so he must have climb in while Miguel was sleep and got stuck but really miss his family. " His final evaluation for preschool was he's wonderfully, they don't want him to leave, butt he stilled does side by side play.

Fast forward we really needed help because his picking was so bad and he told us something that broke our heart. Miguel's dx is always evolving. Originally it was adhd w. Adjustment disorder. I didn't agree with the adjust disorder as he has never had any major thing to adjust to. I talked to t and was told that's what dx pdoc uses as a place holder. New pdoc dx'd adhd w. Depression, then aspergers w. Bipolar but wants fresh eyes on him. He gets reevaluated Monday.

I was diagnosed BP 1 at age 43 and my daughter (at age 19) one month later with BP 1.

Oldest son, Learning disability and aspergers. He is super smart though...he is a 12 year old computer programmer. I don't know how he is my child...I am techno-backwards. Second son has a learning disability and issues with organization. Both kids function very well but oldest is highly sensitive/sporadically passionate and I have my eye on him.

I have 2 boys, 19 and 22. Both have mental health diagnosis and learning disorders.

My 22 year old has Aspergers and Schizophrenia among a lot of learning disabilities. He had a 1 to 2 aid throughout high school and had an IEP plan since 1st grade. The schizophrenia came on later in life.

My 19 year old was diagnosed ADHD in high school. His 1st IEP was for a learning disorder with math. He talked all through his classes and fell way behind. The only way he graduated was because the high school had night classes for him.
He now shows signs of OCD, slight paronia, and high anxiety.

I have Bipolar. My husband is not diagnosed with a mental illness, but does suffer panic attacks.

When I was pregnant I was told to stay on my medication as it was more of a risk to take me off. I wouldn't say my daughter has special needs but she has a catalogue of unique ( not sure how to phrase it) she never slept or ate or put on weight. Was diagnosed constantly for 5 years with viruses. Eventually diagnosed with multiple allergies. Chlorine being one which is rare. She has traits of ADD. Poor fine motor skills, sleep apnoea, ( tonsils and adenoids now removes) her teeth are a disaster, so overcrowded she is being sent to see a consultant to decide what to do - oh she was born with a tooth again very rare. She has no 3D vision and uses her eyes independently. Now I've been told her heels are in the wrong position and has to be referred back to hospital and she needs physio to loosen her up. Now!! Don't tell me that it's all just coincidence and nothing to do with being on meds when pregnant

both of my kids are diagnosed with adhd. my 16 year old has been having depression issues
