Is it the emotions/moods that come before the bad situations and decisions or is it the other way around?

Might be different for everyone!

It can be either/or for me. If I'm in an up or a down... I'm more likely to MAKE the poor/stupid decisions.

But if something really negative (or very rarely something very enegetic) happens to me that I wasn't able to control, then that can spin me into an up or down.

My experience? The mood comes first. Usually. And I make bad decisions because of my flawed perception based on a mood. My therapist once said that I have a tendency to see demons flying when there really are none.

BUT!

A crushing depression can come from a bad decision.

It just depends.

But typically the mood comes first.

For me, the moods come first. However, right now I am in mood stabilization. I am still not in the best situation in the world, but things could always be worse.

It depends. Sometimes I make lousy decisions which cause consequences that throw me into a mood episode; other times, I'm in one and it causes me to make bad decisions. It's like which comes first, the chicken or the egg?

I feel like it could be both, but it is hard to know for sure. I haven't always paid close attention. I know FOR SURE bad situations/bad decisions can trigger an episode though.

I agree with middlepath. It goes both ways. Usually I feel the mood first though, I can feel it in my entire body.

Agree with Middlepath, too. It's both, I think.

I also think it could be both and depends on the sitaution. Sometimes your mood is your mood no matter what else is going on, good or bad. But, I think that moods can easily cause bad situaitions to get worse, too.

Thanks for your responses! Like Turbulence, I feel my moods in my entire body (for the first time starting at 36!)...
I guess I'm just looking for a way to control this. My track record on controlling things isn't very good though!
