I dunno if it's a board certified grounding technique, but boy has it worked for me.
I'm not sure if it's part of the illness or just my broken brain but I get thinking about something and can't stop. So I found myself obsessing over a girl situation and my job hunt and just current situation in general. I tried some other grounding techniques and just couldn't get the thoughts out of my head. So I put on a playlist of high energy music I know all the words to (for me, that's my 'Portugal. The Man' happy time playlist) and went in my backyard and just sang at medium volume, danced around like a crazy person (little do they know, ha) and smoked a couple ciggs for about 20 minutes. I now have a clear head. This probably may not be ideal in many situations (e.g. work or any time during the day), but it was perfect for home alone (or everyone else asleep) in the middle of the night. I invite everyone to try it! Good luck! Last edited by lil_better_everyday; Jul 02, 2013 at 03:12 AM. Reason: Silly grammar! |

I do similar things - if I am not focused and have a lot of energy, I definitely will be bouncing around and singing. Usually I also end up cleaning. Or if I"m chatting on the computer with someone I might just be singing away to keep myself focused on the conversation.

I wish I ended up cleaning when I have to much energy! Man'o'man would that make everything easier!
Maybe I'll try it sometime and it'll stick. Doubtful though. Both on the trying it and consequently it sticking. |

Listening to music with headphones works for me. Also, it is my motivation for walking, and sometimes ignoring my bickering kids! I wish I could go in the backyard and sing, but my neighbors are too close!

The need to move physically like that actually has a name.... which I can't remember right now. But, yeah, I fidget and pace around a lot when I'm distressed. Also rocking happens, sometimes.
When I was a teenager. I would make up my own dances to my favorite songs and perform them over and over. I'd like to start doing that again, actually, because it's good exercise! I just don't have a good space for it in my house. So, now me and my baby dance to the musical guest at the end of Conan at night. Haha. He loves dancing.
