Okay well ..
Dr Phil is once again proving he is an asshat... and a ratings w hore.. The person he has on his show that is " bipolar" is just adding fuel to the raging fire of " bipolar people are incapable of controlling there lives and are harmeful to others" Looks a lot like BPD and add a dash or half a dozen other things.

Well done Dr Idiot !

Is this the episode where the "bipolar" chick claims her mother and sister beat her until she had a miscarriage? If so, that episode made me angry. at least dr. phil didn't seem to believe she was actually bp. But that lady was horrible!

Seriously, I'm beginning to think that bipolar disorder has to be the most misunderstood mental illness there is. The misinformation -and stereotypes- are rampant. Don't tell me, this person was 'nuts' all the time?

It seems to me that the whole episodic nature of the condition seems to be the most lost on people. Sometimes I feel like shouting from the rooftops "with 'normal' periods in between!" Not this constant rollercoaster that seems to be a consensus amongst many out there.

I think people need to refer more to the DSM, but more importantly, I wish that the DSM would tighten up the criteria and make it more descriptive and specific, so it doesn't leave so many holes/gaps open to all kinds of interpretations. My rant. I find it all so annoying. And one of the main reasons why I do *not* tell people I have this.

Here is the
I have to say that Dr. phil said over and over again that he doesn't think it's bipolar. He also kept asking who diagnosed her. I really think they should have re-evaluated her before the episode if he did not feel that she had bipolar.

That's interesting -I agree they should have re-evaluated her before the episode, but maybe it's a good thing that he publically questioned it. I frankly don't feel like watching it, can you tell me what she said when he asked where she had been diagnosed?

It as the fact that she always flipped out crying and screaming until her voice went hoarse whenever someone pissed her off. None of her behaviors were episodic. Just all the time and she blamed her "bipolar" for her actions. And it's been a while since I've seen that episode, but I can't remember any discussion of depressed moods at all.

She said a pdoc dx'd her when she was baker acted (72 hr involuntary hold). He said that nothing that he has seen says bipolar but that he's sending her to be re-evaluated at the pnp center. What really angers me is that she's abusive (physically & verbally) to her family and her kids see her behavior. It's not like they're going to do an update hey "crazy girl " has xyz wrong with her. Even if they did she's a horrible example of true mental illness.

Thanks for letting us know about the episode!

I am not a Dr. Phil fan.

It is unfortunate when misconceptions and stereotypes are still perpetuated in movies and TV. I saw a movie on TV the other day in which DID was reported as schizophrenia. No, schizophrenics do not have "two different personalities." Sigh.

I just finished watching the episode. I'm not a Dr. Phil fan either, but I think he was right to question her diagnosis because she doesn't act like any bipolar person I've ever known, including myself. I have no idea of what her problem really is, but I'd be very surprised if it's BP, or if it's only BP. And blaming everything on the illness, whether real or imagined, is something I think most of us try NOT to do. JMHO.

Gave it a watch too.....

I didn't recognize anything about myself, or about anything I've read on here about all of you! Not a single thing.

I was glad to see that Dr. Phil was questioning the diagnosis. I wish he had he on another guest who was bipolar though, to show the general audience what it is actually like... because all it did was leave people with bipolar=crazy.

I do have to say though she acts like my sister, my sister has the diagnosis of bipolar. I do not like the fact that she has two small children and is acting probably younger than them and they have to rely on her moyher to fully take care of them. I'm not a doctor phil fan either.
