My husband and I AND our son all see the same therapist. He is well-versed in family dynamics/therapy, and his insights into us as a family unit have been very helpful.

What you have to be aware of is if you are the type of person who can "share" that therapist, or are you possessive of your therapist as only yours. If you are possessive, probably not a god idea.

I know people worry that the therapist will breach confidentiality in such an arrangement. We've never had that problem. Our T made that very clear from the beginning that he always holds what we say in confidence unless one of us is in danger. Confidentiality is obviously a conversation you must have.
Thanks for this!

Spouses sharing T's or pdocs have always ended really bad for us. By means of being on the brink of divorce. Each of us seeing our own t even with the other one in the room seems to be okay. I know I rattle my t. I know he rattles his t.

With my own T I'm not trying to look okay if he's not well and he's not trying to look okay when I'm not. I feel we are more truthful with our own therapists even when our family dynamic, or significant others mood is questioned. Our ability to handle emergencies or the raising of our child has never been called into question while with separate T's. Our own or our spouses safety has been but never our child.

The way I feel is each person and relationship should have their own T and pdoc but all the information should be shared between professional parties. That way there is far more information and opinions weighing in on each of our treatments.
