Hi, my name is Nessa, and I am a chronic nail biter and have an embarrassing Chapstick addiction.

Addition: I also frequently binge on QVC and the Home Shopping Network.

I pick my skin and get scars. I don't reply to texts or answer calls from people, even family, for weeks and sometimes months. I don't eat unless I'm starving. I act like I'm lazy when really I'm just stressed out of my mind.

Coming up with reasons why I can't do ( whatever it is I want to achieve ) instead of telling myself why I can and coming up with ways I shall do it. Terrible learned way of thinking that I keep working at but is so automatic. It's a bad habit for sure.

Mandrec, I suffered with dermatillomania (skin picking) for years, if it's that extent it's a tough one. . I found a way out eventually but I feel your pain on that one.

I'm two sided and lack consistency

Everything and nothing, I can be anything on the right day. Or nobody on a bad day.

Annoying habits?

- I pick at my scalp. Some of it's flaky/scaley but not dandruff? I scratch at it and pull it away from my scalp. Especially if I'm thinking seriously or nervous. This also happens around my eyebrows.
- twirl my hair sometimes
- cannot make eye contact for very long when nervous, upset, or just off thinking about other things
- perpetually throw my clothes onto the floor and then get mad that they're there and not in the basket which is two feet away
- making grocery lists and then forgetting to look at them
- buying healthy groceries then forgetting to eat them and having to throw out all the healthy food
- I never, ever, put paperwork away and get furious at how messy it gets!

I pick at my lips. I pull out my eyelashes. I pick at my nails and tear them off. I get nervous about replies to emails and texts and wonder if I've done something to offend tge person and that's why I haven't gotten a response yet. I could go on.

My son's a picker. My suggestion is to block Qvc and the home shopping network.

I so feel ya. It's part of my ocd, intensifies by my mood... I chew on the insides of my cheeks- they're sore & bloody at the end of a bad day. I grind mu teeth- more in my sleep (also sleepwalk & talk in my sleep) Used to pick at my nails until I started getting acrylic & shellac on them. Pick at my scalp, face- any seemingly dry spot turns into a red, puffy, bloody spot. I've gotten so much better with the next one... I don't like how I wrote something, I throw it away & start over. As a nurse, I can't always do that, because if someone else has written something, it can't be discarded. Hmm, I think that's it. And yeah, it sure does suck!

No I don't think it's dermatillomania, because it doesn't "result in significant distress or social or occupational impairment". I just spend an hour or two on it every day and my arms and shoulder's are a bit ugly, that's all. I don't pick the scabs a lot either.
Another annoying habit: I pick my skin and scalp and zits in front of other people because I don't care, but I know they do.
Thanks for this!
Anika.
