Constipation ( i did not want to put that part in the thread )

What effects does coffee and cigarettes have on the ability of your meds to work properly?

If you have to take laxitives does that prevent the uptake of the meds

I know I should be asking my pdoc - I am only seeing her again on the Friday the 13th - tum tum tum

I have a recipe for a drink that should eliminate (pardon the pun!!!) the need for any laxatives. It's called the Hot Slider.

6 oz prune juice
30 ml Milk of Magnesia or Karo dark corn syrup
2 pats butter

Mix all ingredients into glass, nuke for about 45 seconds depending on your microwave oven, stir, and drink. Doesn't taste terrific, but within an hour or two that stuff'll come "sliding" out of you slicker than grease through a goose. It's what I use to bomb my husband loose when his cancer meds get him all blocked up, and I've only seen it fail a few times.

Try it and let me know if it works for you. In the meantime, cigarettes and coffee probably don't have much of an effect on your meds, except those you'd take to suppress mania. As you may know, these are nervous system stimulants, and if you're trying to avoid becoming manic, they aren't good choices. But you knew that already.

I've been taking Miralax since I went on my meds. I also take fiber caps and eat a bunch of fiber every day. That seems to keep everything movin' and groovin'. One unfortunate side effect is that I fart like a brass band all of the time.

I'll give your concoction a try, BipolaRNurse. It sounds pretty disgusting, though.

On a side note, my doctor swears that constipation is not a side effect of any of my meds.
