Has anyone had persistent headaches that just won't go away from meds? I get one about every other day. I'm not talking about minor ones either, but pain bordering on migraine territory. It seems like no amount of headache medication or water gets rid of them. Does anyone have any suggestions? I know I spend too much time on the computer because of work (and PC), but they start about an hour after I take meds in the morning. Please help!

Did you recently start your meds? It could be a side affect that should go away once you are used to them. If not talk to your pdoc about it. I take 200mg of lamictal and I'm fine on it. I discontinued abilify so I don't remember if it gave me headaches .

Yeah, I just started last week. I hope it doesn't happen every time they up the dose.

It takes your body a bit of time to adjust to your medication (couple of weeks to a month), be patient with it and if the side affects are to hard to deal with after waiting a while, you should talk to your pdoc. I never got headaches, but lamictal gave me a lot of f*cked up nightmares for a couple of weeks. Not everyone experiences that so don't be alarmed, but if you do find that you are developing nightmares, lamictal is most likely the source.

Thanks for the info. I've heard about the nightmares so I'm prepared. I'm glad to hear it eventually goes away.

If you're spending a lot of time on the computer every day, have you had your eyes checked lately? Are your eyes red or dry? It could be something as simple as eye strain. Try some eye drops. Sometimes optometrists will prescribe special glasses just for computer use. You don't wear them to read or to drive, just while at the computer. My friend had a pair with coloured lenses just to wear while on the computer.

Or, are you grinding you teeth at night? I had a dx of TMJ in my 40's. I had massive headaches and my dentist found I was grinding my teeth at night from tension and I didn't even know it. He prescribed a mouth guard (which you can get at the dentist for $300 or at the drug store for $5) and I quit grinding my teeth and the headaches went away.

Carpal tunnel syndrome can also cause headaches. I had left and right carpal tunnel surgery in 1994.

Many simple physical things can cause headaches.

I do need an eye exam for sure. I have noticed that I've been clenching my teeth a lot recently too. I have an appt with my PCP in a few weeks and I'l address it then. I also have to make an appt with the eye doc. It's been a while. I used to have glasses specifically for the computer, but I lost them. Now I just use the drugstore glasses and they seem to help.

I've basically noticed that the headaches I do get are more intense and unbearable. Sometimes they make me dizzy and nauseous. I guess I might have issues with migraines?

Migraines are difficult to diagnose. Especially if you aren't having auras with them. I fought with my doc for years before he finally admitted that my migraines were real. My aunt and grandma had migraines.

I don't know about the aura thing. Can you (or someone) explain what that looks like?

No, mine is more in the front part, like a tension headache. I do have stiffness in my shoulders and back, but it's probably due to stress rather than meds.
