I live with my boyfriend and another person who is a hoarder. The other person takes up 80% of the basement with boxes and doesn't clean his area. There is matted cat hair everywhere and it really grinds my gears how he doesn't give a f---. He has several cats which gave my cat fleas. I treated my cat, but his cats are still infested. They're awful cats and he wants to get rid of one, but we can't until he finally treats them. The fleas are every where and at work I found several on my clothes. This and the tape worm problem made me extremely manic last year. I wish he would actually clean or move out. I really wish we could move, but we don't have the money. Even when he eventually treats his cats there will be a lot of vacuuming to be done which he won't help with. This is a problem since basically the whole basement is his and if he doesn't clean the damn place this will happen again. The last time the flea/tape worm problem happened it lasted for 6 months because he felt that medicating them once was good enough. I'm so angry right now and paranoid about fleas being on me, I just want a normal home. I don't ask for anything crazy like a 5 bedroom house, I just want what every person needs. I don't expect an answer to this problem since it's the hoarder's fault and we tried for so long to change him to be better.

:S I'd be freaking out.

Who owns the property? Is there a landlord? Do you own it?

Unless the basement guy owns the property... can you look into eviction?

If it's your property and you need the rent from him.... there's always people looking for a place to rent and once he's out and the place is cleaned up, you'll be able to find a new tennant.

I would be so stressed out in your situation. Like... if he was just a messy dirty hoarder that's one thing... but he's affecting the health of his cats, your cat, and you! Can you report him to the humane society or something for the neglect he is showing his cats?

Ughh the fleas I hate the fleas!!! So now they're immune to the toxic expensive meds. A dog & 4 cats in a big carpeted house - I tried all these natural remedies that haven't worked. The vet says I need to flea bomb whole house and spray the yard - the fleas keep coming back in because they're in the yard. I have an organic garden - i'm not about to spray it with pesticide. This is the worst time of year for it I think. When it gets colder & it already is, the fleas should die. I really really hate them. And I want to remove all carpets and put in wood floors only when / if I have the money.
So I totally feel for you, it's driving me crazy too. I could rant another page long about it!!
And that guy needs to clean up his boxes and vacuum and all that. Sometimes it's good to go a little crazy on someone so they get the message.

The landlord doesn't know I live here (I'm illegally living here to avoid being homeless). I had a massive mental break down about this today and working four 15 hour shifts in a row with 5 hours a sleep each day. I'm still not okay and I had to skip class today, I'm extremely mad at my bosses for putting me through this.
