I was wondering if others experienced a hangover from the Saphris? Last night was my first night on the new drug at 5mg. I am supposed to step all the way up to 20mg. I woke up feeling really tired this a.m. after falling asleep without knowing it last night shortly after I took the drug. It really seemed to knock me out last night.

I would never be able to take 20 mg. Like you 5mg knocked me out quickly for the night. I found taking it about 8:30PM and heading to bed put me to sleep about 9:00PM and that gave me about 9 hours of very nice sleep a night with no hangover in the morning. Are you allowing yourself enough sleep time during the night after taking it?

How many hours of sleep did you do after taking it? You need a full nights rest (8-9 hours) as mentioned by 1914sierra. I am on 20 mg, taken all before bed. I get a full 8 hours, I'm OK, but if I don't, I'm very drowsy.

I am on 5mg down from 10 because being drowsy, but I take other meds with drowsiness as side effects too. I find that I must get at least 9 hours of sleep or I will doze off on the couch if I sit too long. I will skip it if I have to get up before 7am because I am basically comatose otherwise. But I go to bed late, 11 or so, I dont work. My husband says I take it, think the word sleep and I'm out. I would consider asking not to take it but on the nights I skip, I barely sleep and no sleep med works on me. I cant take it early and try to stay up, it works in less than 15 min on me. If that long. I couldnt imagine 20mg but it could be weight dependent too as I am only a 5 ft woman 132 lbs

Hi. It is still early days for you with your saphris and upping your dose. It will knock you around for a couple of weeks while you're increasing the dose. Once you have stopped at the right amount the grogginess will decrease and eventually stop all together. When I first started taking saphris I was barely functional. I think it took 2-3 weeks to get used to it and the strength. I got to the point where i could take 2 at night and 1 in the morning and still function normally, with no grogginess or hangover. And that was all within a 3 week period. You will get used to it. Unless it just isn't the right med for you. You will know it isn't if the side effects continue after a period of about a month and are stopping you from functioning. Like I said already, you will probably get used to it and once you start seeing results you will love it. I did. Good luck, take care and keep us posted about your progress and any developments.

Thanks all for the information. I spoke with my sister; who is a sales rep for Saphris, and she says it should pass after a week once you get used to the med in your system. Has anyone noticed weight gain. She stated that a 52 week study the median was a 2lb gain. I have been trying to lose weight so I am a bit concerned about a yet another drug that causes weight gain.

Yeah, like I said the stupefying effects where off quickly. I didn't put on any extra weight with saphris, but I was also unable to lose any of the weight I'd put on with other meds. My weight plateau'd. No matter how much I eat or exercise, the weight just stays now.
