My hair has been significantly thinning since I began taking medications for depression/bipolar. It started with Cymbalta which I stopped and has continued with my new medications: Seroquel, Lamictal and Risperdal. I don't want to go back to the deep, dark hole I was in but I also don't want to be bald. I'm still severely depressed with quick cycles of hypomania but it's much better than where I was.

Anyone know of any cocktails that don't cause hair loss?

Thanks!

Lamictal is probably the one.. It has thinned my hair I am about ready to drop it.

Make sure your thyroid is okay , that can cause hair loss also .. its just a quick blood test.

Make sure you talk to your Doctor about the hair loss ... Its a valid side effect.

My extremely thick hair has thinned out considerably since I went on Lamictal back in 2012, and the process accelerated after I started Geodon in February. But I still have plenty left, and even better, I have my sanity back. Not much of a contest there, even if my hair were to get really thin.

Thanks ladies! Mine started before the Lamictal but I don't know if it's the Seroquel as well. Both of these meds are helping me tremendously. I guess I won't worry about it unless I start to look bald. Right now I can cover the thin spots.

I will talk to my doctor and get my thyroid checked.

Hi,
I can relate. The worst was when I was on Epival. I stopped taking it and it grew back somewhat. Recently it seems to be falling out again I don't know why I'm on Lithium and seroquel. But have also been diagnosed with hypothyroid recently, not sure if that would cause hair loss. My hair is very fine and it is really noticeable. My son mentioned it awhile back, it crushed me because it upset him. I try to put a brave face on it. I'm really not a vain person but it has undermined my confidence, along with having put on a lot of weight. I hate the way I look now and am pretty convinced other people are repulsed by my appearance. I hope you can find a solution.

Oh Bumble2u: I doubt people are repulsed by your appearance. It may have undermined your confidence - I can relate to that. I have fine hair but I had a lot of it - not anymore. This happened several years ago when I was on Celexa only but I had bald spots and you could see my whole scalp. It did grow back but it took a good six months.
