I take 250mg 3x/ day and shortly after taking a capsule, I have heartburn, really bad. Anyone else have this problem? It usually doesn't last long but still.....I hate indigestion and/or heartburn....So, does this happen to anyone else?

Thanks for this!

Mine are fairly large capsules, generic to Dekapote. I think I spelled that right...

I did have heart burn with them. Have you tried taking an ant-acid with them?

Watch taking any ant-acids. They can slow the absorption of some medicine and can even interact with them. Check w/ your pdoc about that first. However, when I was on it, I drank lots of water to hurry up and get it out of my stomach. Just like w/ antibiotics.
Thanks for this!

Valproic acid does commonly cause burning. My advice is to drink a large glass of water with each dose. You may also want to talk with your doc about being prescribed the Depakote ~ which is coated to prevent burning. Otherwise, perhaps Nexium or Prilosec is necessary to prevent esophageal damage.
