I am wondering if some of my "moods" could be hormonal changes that women go through?
Or am I trying to not want to be treated for BP?
Right now, I feel fine and ready to start my day.
In an hour I might feel differently.
In a minute I may feel angry, sad or both or I may still feel fine.
I get angry and snappy a lot.
Anyway, could it just be my hormones???

Try a mood diary (with menstrual cycle) to see if there is a pattern. Thats how I got diagnosed with PMDD, the week or so leading up to my period is horrid, with my mood going from depressed to sometimes what is very similar to a mixed state, but I never personally get manic (although I have read it is possible). The rest of the month I am stable and pretty happy. When I started getting suicidal ONLY the night before the bleeding started tipped me off that there was something more going on.

I just read an article tonight about an increase in PMS symptoms for women with BP, I will see if I can find it again. Might be of interest.
Thanks for this!

mzunderstood, I'm the same way now. I used to get bad PMDD, but now that I'm approaching menopause, my moods seem to shift constantly throughout the day. I've read that premenopausal women can have a worsening of existing mood disorders due to hormones.
Thanks for this!

My bipolar blossomed at the beginning of my premenopausal symptoms, at age 42...my periods changed from rages 2 days before to suddenly I was laying in the floor crying 2 days before. My dx came at age 43. So even though bp is there, hormones def exacerbate the symptoms. I feel like a hormone/ brain chemical factory gone out of whack.

Thanks guys!! I am only 34 with all of my reproductive organs. I've had 2 children and a tubal. Gives me more info to give my doctor. I'm faithfully taking my meds, praying, and hoping for relief soon.

Bipolar Disorder and Our Menstrual Cycle | Her Bipolar Life

Thats the article/blog I read. I was quite surprised at the stats.

In my own research there are a few herbal suppliments that may be helpful. I havent been able to afford them but chasteberry, valerian, evening primrose oil, black cohosh and then vitamins like calcium, vitamin E, B-6 and magnesium are all supposed to be helpful. I have been taking vitamin B with rhodiola and fishoil, and I didnt get absolutely suicidal last cycle, but knowing it would pass probably helped too.
Thanks for this!
