So...

I been recently doing some translatting and I found myself very hyperfocused o it... again, as I done before with school, completely submerging to my task, not even eating too much or wanting to do something else.

Right now I need to buy some appliances for my new place, but I am kinda doing this "research like mad, google all day long and make it matter of life and death, as if your whole life with all it's aspects were affected by which fridge you will buy..."

I don't know if this is bipolar thing, or a nerd thing (I often obsess over some hobby, be it upcoming Eurovision, getting settled in a new place... or watching wars in middle east life on Al Jazz stream and going out only when absolutelly necessary, cause what if something happens and I miss it? (well, it happened. I missed the fall of Mubarak while getting my groceries. Oh the tragedy, what shall I tell my grandkids?).

Any tips on how can I balance my life more and kinda "multitask"?

Yea i go through that every now and then. Sure could be bipolar or OCD or both or some thing else, but it's great while it lasts! Sorry, no tips, I just go along with the ride.

I get super focused too. The problem: it ONLY ever happens if it's something I'm choosing to do. If I have to do it, then no dice. haha.

ha, I can focus on things I have to do, if I tell myself I enjoy them (aka boring class in school). It's survival thing, otherwise I wouldn't be able to do it.

I could never convince myself I like cleaning for example.

Oh... I can truck my way through them, but it's in no way a hyperfocus. I'll take breaks and go "ugh I am sick of this!" whereas when I'm super focused... I could spend all day and only realize I forgot to eat when it's time to go to bed - which will be later than normal! And I'll begrudge having to get up to go and use the washroom....

I feel you, I go through phases like you wouldn't believe! If only there were an on/off switch so I could force my attention to my studies instead of things that DISTRACT me from my studies. Gah!

My husband points it out to me. I am really notorious for this behavior.

A bit of this hyperfocus behavior is normal for everyone to a extent. I believe it ismuch more intense in individuals with ADHD or bipolar though.

I hyper focus sometimes, usually something that's interesting to me or I'm maniacally cleaning or dancing , lose track of time , don't hear people talking to me & they say are you ADD or something - ha if they only knew...

But most of the time, if I'm "well" functioning at work , I multi task so much that there's papers flying , 2 computers going , phone calls , meetings , all at same time. So that's a big problem too. It's like it hurts my brain & I get angry to have to focus on only 1 thing at those times.
Thanks for this!
