These best explain mine, except once I'm down I don't get back up very often.

I want to die, I'm afraid to die I'm heavy, my neck and head hurt, I feel so overwhelmed, I'm doing nothing with my life, I can't do anything, I want to end it, I've tried before but I just can't, I'm on the edge, I'm floating in the river that turns into the niagara falls, I'm facing away from the fall, I can hear the water dropping, but I don't know how far away I am.

hypomania?

Life's great, be my friend, I wanna sing, I should go to college, the future is bright, I'll find a wife, adopt a kid from asia, help out at a homeless shelter, win the lotto, I'm a millionaire, spend money, candy canes jimmy cricket and christmas!

Good question-being down for me is unexplainable mental agony and deep desairity! Being up is pure euphoria and feeling total elation and joy! Now in a mixed state, is feeling extreme anxiety, irritability and hopelessness at the same time! Hope that helps a bit!

Down: Feel little joy in anything (unless it's work-related, then I feel productive and good - - too bad I'm not working much anymore). Just don't feel like doing much - - not even watching t.v. or reading.

Hypomanic: Hyperactive, can't sit still. Uncomfortable if not engaged in activity. Quick thinking and quick wit. Unreasonable goals. Feel happy but very irritable at the same time.

Do Not Die! I have been there, too. Forget that. Call your doctor immediately!

Let's see, when I am down I feel sad, and like there is no hope.
When I am up, I am happy, and there is not only hope, but an attitude of "Hey, I deserve better."
It's also like this .

I read the question a little differently…

HUGE energy variation.

Bouncing off walls, rip me off the ceiling, need the Great Wall of China to shield yourself from my rapid-fire, 7-topics-at-once barrage of words.
THE WORLD is molasses.

To can't move, stare at walls, can't manage basic tasks or self-care (like showering and eating), having all the emotional response of a roll of paper towels.
MY world is molasses.

Answer if I missed what you meant with my initial understanding:
WAY up. WAY down. Not situationally explained, can go on for weeks or months.
Thanks for this!

My ups have various degrees and so do my downs, and then there are the mixed which are hard to define. This does not include the various levels of psychosis I can get in either state. For me any ways, the ups are just feeling super good, motivated and inspired. Full of hope and new ideas and ventures. Once in a great while I end up in a hospital. My downs are different levels too. The past 16 years only suicidal twice, one hospitalization. For me any ways, the most challenging or difficult aspects of all this are my delusions.
