Are you seeing a psychiatrist? I would take melatonin. You can take upto 10 mg a night.

10mg is quite a high dose, the average dose for melatonin is 3mg, but I would discuss this with your pdoc and/or pcp on dosing if you choose to use this supplement.

There are many factors that could be causing your lack of sleep. You should try relaxing techniques such as meditating, yoga, reading, and some teas help reduce stress along with induce sleep like chamomile tea. I would address this issue to your pdoc or pcp today if possible as sleep deprivation is serious, especially for that length of time.

been there done that, tried everything under the sun, just made me yawn. You can go to your general Doc for your sleep issue if you can't wait for a pdoc. The only thing besides benzos and barbiturates that knock me out is Seroquel, every time I say this I sound like a freaking commercial lol.

Seriously, if your like me you need some thing a little stronger then over the counter stuff. Good luck!

Well... this is going to be a silly question and post - but I'm going to go over the normal sleep routine things.

What do you do at night when you aren't sleeping? What's your night routine like?

Like... I go to bed within a certain time frame every night (with the exception of weekends if I've chosen to go out). No matter what. I'll read once I get in to bed if I'm not tired enough to conk out. If I wake up in the middle of the night (which is frequent for me)... I do NOT get out of bed unless it's to use the washroom and then I go back and lay in that bed. As much as I want to... I will not get out of bed until my alarm goes at 6am. Sometimes I'll get out of bed sometime after 5am. But never before 5am.

What do you do in the hours leading up to when you should go to bed? Caffeine and exercize can keep you awake... I think I've read that you shouldn't drink caffiene after lunch if you have trouble sleeping.

I don't find that any of it will help me fall asleep... but it does help keep my sleeping habits more stable and regular. My body knows that between 9 and 10 I will be going to bed and it expects to be asleep by 10:30ish. It's also so well trained at getting up at 6am that I don't really need to have an alarm.

Out of my friends and a lot of other people who I've randomly talked to about sleep schedules... I probably have the most consistent one. It's the only chance I have at getting into a normal sleep habit (I frequently wake up, wake up mega early, or have problems falling asleep.... these become a LOT more frequent if I start messing with my night routine).

I lay in bed, read and turn off lights usually at 10, but not consistent. Stopping coffe didn't help. I just wake up at 12/1 and cannot sleep. I stay in bed and read. My mind thinks too much at night - last night I felt like I had smoked pot and felt very sexual (embarrassing to say).
If I could only sleep I would be ok...

Sorry to hear!! For me I need Sonota to fall asleep, and Trazodone and Neurontin to keep me asleep. Best of luck!

That's a knock off of ambien right? Sort of like what Buspar is to Benzos. I dunno, most wanna-be's never work as good as the real thing. I'm telling you I swear I'm telling the truth, nothing even put a dent in me, all I did was yawn! I could fall asleep taking benzos and alcohol, but come on, I shouldn't have to do that right?! Ambien helped me fall asleep, but not keep me asleep. Seroquel at 200mg knocks me on my azz I love it! And you can get it from your regular doc, it's NOT a controlled schedule 2 or 3 or 4! It's a very heavy duty anti-psychotic but I'm telling you it works for me! You wanna sleep? Ask your doc for seroquel and your gonna love the really vivid dreams too!

I understand the feeling. A couple of years ago, I couldn't sleep much for only a few days and I was going bonkers. My pdoc put me on Geodon and it worked like a charm! Good luck finding something that helps you!

What works for me is a combination of Atterax and Melatonin. Also having a regular sleep schedule helped me. Atterax by the way, is a prescription sleep pill that I got thanks to my PDoc.

Definitely talk to the pdoc. They generally know what is best when it comes to medication and sometimes supplements. They should also know what is good to mix and what is not to avoid side effects.

I was on vistaril for a good while, and it helped me, especially with a lot of anxiety I would have about sleep. Perhaps it has something to do with that, and definitely something to bring up with your doctor.

It is what I suggest.

Oh my days, you sound like I did over the Christmas period!! Especially the sexual thing ha, I was just spaced out and dissociating at night. It finally got down to three hours then I ended up taking a few Promethazine tablets and I was out light a light for hours and that brought down the mania. They are an antihistamine/sedative and you can get them over the counter x
