I was just curious as to whether or not people have had success with depakote? I started a little over a week ago and I've found my self extremely irritable and zombie like. I've lost motivation, am extremely tired, and cannot fall asleep. It's starting to take effect on me at work. It's even difficult for me to think anymore. Prior to this I was on lamotrigine. No success there. I have rapid cycling bipolar. I'm praying something out there will help me.

It took me a little while to get over the initial tiredness I switched from lamictal too, had to bring the manic train to a stop. It took a bit of med tweaking over a couple of months to get all of me straightened out because I promptly went into depression, (Nov, Dec) we stayed with the depakote and tweaked my atypical antipsychotic (was on saphris, tried latuda) eventually we came to my current combo in Jan. I've been stable since mid Jan. Amoxapine worked fast.

Different Meds work for different ppl. Lamactil has worked for me stabilizingy moods better, not perfect. I'm bipolar and am a social worker. I've seen depokote work for ppl. Takes time unfortunately. When starting the zombie like side effects will happen and increased irritability. But I've def seen it help ppl a lot stabilize and get on a steady track. Hang in there. Starting new meds is a hard time period.

Ive been on Lamactil and depokote but nothing steadies my moods (including depression) as well as Lithium, Prozac, and Risperdal. I just wish it would work forever!!!

Yeah I was a zombie on depakote too. I could barely function. I was on for 1 1/2 months and I only experienced extreme fatigue. Make sure they check your blood too while on it. My doc did 1 after being on it almost a week then he was gonna do one every 3 months. It's one of those meds you gotta watch your levels

I could not keep myself awake on depakote, and i would forget things frequently. I forgot big things, like what i had done for several hours. I didn't like it at all.

Thanks for everyone's input. Just wanted to get an idea of what I was in for at the start.
