I have to give a presentation about the mind-body-spirit connection for mental and physical health. I'm not sure what i'm going to say yet. Any input?

How about focusing on holistic medicine, like medications (the therapeutic relationship) exersize (the relationship to self), and emotional support groups (the relationship to others), you know, the specifics on how this can happen?

(My idea of the day where the two neurons that make up my brain happened to fire at the same time)

Have you ever done much with the power of positive thinking and visualisation? You can heal your life type style (linda hay? if you havent heard of it look it up). There was a great doco on here in my country, now I have to remember the name of it.. umm I will see if I can find info on it again. The power of the mind has hardly been explored and we are no where near knowing what we are fully capable of. In regards to healing, events in our lives and how we connect to each other spiritually.

Basic concept of CBT shows the mind and body connection, you can change your feelings through challenging your thoughts. That can also affect physical health and well being in general.

It is such an interesting subject and I wish I could get indepth with you but the current dosage of my medication and the depression brain dullness is preventing me from being able to communicate effectively, nor able to think the to point I would want to publish my experiences in this.

I'd love to see a final copy of your report, would you be willing to share it?
Thanks for this!

I'm willing to share the report, but I'm not sure when it will be ready. I have to relate the topic to my practice as a nurse practitioner, so I don't know how interesting that would be to people who aren't nurses. My friend is doing her PhD and she is making a video about different aspects of NP practice, and she knows I work in mental health, so she asked me to put this together for the video. So I'll be writing as an NP, not as a patient. Anyway, PM me if you are still interested and I'll send a copy once it's done.

Thanks everyone for input!

Found the documentary - Redesign your brain by Todd Sampson. Well worth a look (not sure if you can access it for free anywhere but it is honestly worth watching if you are interested in how much power our brains really have). Absolutely fantastic bit of television and I wish we had more shows like it!

I've always been interested in the mind, body, spirit leanings of DBT therapy. Certainly meditation, distraction, and coping are all speaking to those areas of us that need care. In my own life as a person who has always lived with mental illness, I know that I am at my best when those three areas are well taken care of. For me, that means meditation, prayer, exercise, eating right, and keeping a schedule. And of course, medication and therapy. But to ignore our spiritual side, or our physical health, when dealing with mental illness, is to create a one legged-stool. I would love to see what you come up with for your presentation. Best, Hopeful Camel
