Hey guys, how's it going? I had been taking Zyprexa for 9 years for insomnia and was finally able to quit it. I sleep great now naturally. I've been off for about 40 days and don't take any medication. While on the Z, I gained about 70 pounds even though I exercised all the time and had a good diet. Every day since I've been off, I've been trying my hardest to lose the weight and it won't come off. I'm stuck at 5'7, 227 pounds. I've been running 3-5 miles a day and lifting weights. I had to stop running after around day 35 because my ankle joints started hurting from not taking any breaks.
I have not really lost weight at all. I do not understand. I have been off once before, and the extra weight melted off. For those of you that have come off of a medication that causes heavy weight gain, how long did it take you to lose the weight and how did you do it? Is it normal to have this kind of reaction, or is there permanent damage? I'd appreciate any help, I've been asking around everywhere about this and no one has been able to help. |

I gained 60 pounds on abilify in just a few months. I have been off of it I would say a year and a half. I am still trying to lose 40lbs of it. Its almost like my metabolism reset where its at. I dont gain but dont lose either just as my body was before meds at 125lbs. Its weird I could eat all day or eat nothing for days be very active or depressed in bed my weight stays where it is.

Thanks for the reply, Crystal. I'm sorry you have the same problem. That must be really distressing, but at least you are only 165 pounds. I'd like to at least get under 200. I'm just thinking there's gotta be some way to cure this metabolic "illness" and someone's gotta have a solution somewhere. It doesn't really make sense that I've been off the drug for a considerable amount of time, but I'm still suffering negative effects.
