Probably the wrong forum but it's about BP so I put it here.

Did anyone in the USA watch the new show Black Box about a BP doctor?
It's about a bipolar doctor. I missed the first episode but my mom says it was pretty good and seems like manic episodes seem "true to life". I guess the doctor has a manic episode when she decides not to take her meds. She also hides her illness from her boyfriend.

I wondered if people think it's worth watching.

I'm not in the US, I'm in Canada, but I watched the first episode.

There's a thread for it here: http://forums.psychcentral.com/bipol...ipolar-md.html

Ugh. Save your time. It was awful. Horrible dialogue and acting. Not believable at all.

It was a horrible representation of people with BPD. If anything, it will make people more afraid of people with BPD. It is about a person who is so disiciplined, she becomes a Dr. yet, she has no control over her urges to abandon her treatment and take her medicine.

Does she have BPD too? Or just bipolar?

This is the thread I posted after last week's show: http://forums.psychcentral.com/books...black-box.html

I'm looking forward to tonight's episode.

I don't really know how I feel about it. I guess it is kind of like every time a minority group breaks into the entertainment arena it is going to be stereotypical for awhile. Like I don't think the gay community saw will and grace and were like "hooray! Finally a show that accurately depicts gay life in America! It is just like all of us!" But were they like "okay well I guess that is good that people are at least acknowledging us on mainstream television". Maybe. So I guess I feel like that about this and Bipolar.

I thought it wasn't done very well but still worth watching just because. My big question and fear is what would a person who knew nothing about bipolar think bipolar was like after watching this show.

I will watch and see how it goes and hope it throws us a bone.
