My husband thought I was becoming hypo-manic so I went to my Dr. She upped my Abilify and added Lithium because she agreed and wanted to try to head it off and also head off the depressive fall out.

It's not going well. I think maybe I'm in a mixed state right now but I'm not really sure either so I was hoping to hear some of your stories.

Is it still even considered a mixed state if it's just the meds forcing me from a hypo-manic phase into a depressive phase and they are just overlapping (that's my guess what's going on)?

Irritable beyond belief. Hard to be around others.

Next question - how do you treat your mixed episode? Since both moods are present, it seems awfully difficult.

I'm self-adjusting my meds since I think that's what got me here but it's really hard to know how to handle what I'm feeling. It's a terrible feeling.

My mixed episodes look exactly like my PMS symptoms, unfortunately, and they don't happen at the same time either! I feel like my emotions are on a Rolodex that is moving at lightning speed. Here's rage, here's jealousy, here's a boatload of tears...one right after the other. I didn't really realize that was a mixed episode until I experienced one about a week after I had PMS.
